Help me save my new kitchen

My cat is almost 13 and thinks that he is human, he loves new people to fuss over him and bosses us around. He does not really like toys at all and does not bother with any of the scratching posts or other scratchy things which we have bought him. He greets us by scratching at the kitchen cupboard door nearest to the back door and occasionally other kitchen doors. I am so excited to get a new kitchen in a few weeks but worried that he may get up to his old tricks and ruin my new doors. Any ideas how to stop him scratching them please?

Make sure he has plenty of other scratching options, if he likes to scratch doors and cabinets then vertical scratch posts are the way. He clearly likes to scratch things, even if not the standard toys, so it's up to you to find an alternative to your cabinet doors.

You can put double sided tape on the doors, they hate the stickiness and won't touch it. Bitter apple spray tastes awful and might put them off.
