Cat making friends with neighbour cat?

How do your cats usually cope with having other cars nearby?

Earlier today, our cat was out the front of the house, loafing about behind some shrubbery.

Neighbour's cat was also out, having a wonder and clocked me watching him/her an d then spotted our cat.

What happened next really surprised me, as I was poised to dash out to possibly rescue our cat from a fight.

There was no fighting or hissing, but a long, miaow from our cat to the stranger cat. Neighbour cat cautiously backed away and slinked under another neighbour's car, and our cat followed and poked her head under the same car, giving another miaow.

Ncat emerges from underneath the car and scuttles across the road, and our cat follows and observes Ncat from underneath another car.

I don't know why, but it really amused me watching our cat stalk another out of curiosity, but I'm so relieved there wasn't a fight.

Befire we adopted our cat, this neighbour's cat used to come into our garden from time to time.

Should I be worried for potential future fight? Or are they generally welcoming if they've met each other?

My cat was best friends with next door neighbours cat. If they were out they were usually together.

I have one who spends a lot of time with the cat opposite, and another who regularly goes hunting with the cat next-door-but-one. I've not experienced any fighting outside, just my old girl inside who insists on hissing and attempting to fight the other 3, one of whom is her daughter 🤦‍♀️

Oh, that's really warmed me. @Anotheanon

The reason why I was worries is because, when she was with her previous owner, she did get into a fight with another cat, who was a tom, and kept coming into her garden. I was there at the time and the screeching was frightening. Apparently this cat no longer visits now that we have her!

I am reassured now! How funny @POTC about your girl cat!

We had a cat that had a best friend. They were inseparable.

My boy made friends with neighbours cat, and would follow her about, they used to sunbathe together.
He was friendly towards any cat, except when we acquired a little stray girl who was tiny but would attack him on sight.
He made friends with a big male who used to visit, lots of sniffing went on, but said big male would chase another one away from our garden. They just choose who they want to be friends with.
