Is this possible?

I lost my lovely cat to cancer at the beginning of the year and dearly miss him. I would love to get another cat BUT have a cat chasing dachshund.

My cat was already here when we got him as a puppy and was top cat so it worked.

Would it be possible to introduce an adult cat into the house? Has anyone done this with a cat-chasing dog?

I really don't think it would be fair to the cat. Even if it was a dog savvy cat, you know your dog is not able to be calm around cats. We fostered a dog on a 2 week trial and he was totally chill around our cats, but one of our cats was utterly terrified of the dog. We ended up not adopting the dog as it just wasn't fair on the cat.

I have a cat-chasing dog and three cats. He only tries to chase cats he sees outdoors, though.

We have lots of safe spaces for the cats - baby gates and high up shelves so they have plenty of rest and respite from him.

Two of the cats were here before him and we got the youngest three years ago - never had any real problem.
