Cat can’t catch mice

Lola our lovely rescue cat doesn’t have a clue it seems!

We recently spotted a mouse at home, no previous evidence of mice. Lola got very excited and started swiping around in the space between the floor and a raised cupboard where we could see the mouse.

Mouse managed to escape and so we set traps which have not caught anything.

I reckon that Lola would be terrified if confronted with the mouse!

Anyone have a (mouse) clueless cat?

My girl cat has only brought in 2 (live) mice in her life and didn’t really know what to do with them. She also used to bring in live butterflies. However, I’d far rather that than our boys who bring in live and dead squirrels 🐿 😳

Coffeepot72 · 05/03/2023 10:26

OP, be careful what you wish for! Our female cat was a fur-covered killing machine in her younger days, and she always brought her prizes home …

Toddlerteaplease · 05/03/2023 10:52

Toro my two couldn't catch a cold!

CatOnTheChair · 05/03/2023 11:10

Yeah, I wouldn't be disappointed with that cat characteristic!
Mine can catch mice (and birds, and frogs) but doesn't understand killing them. So i get brought injured and petrified catches to deal with. She has a dusk- dawn curfew now.

Shopper727 · 05/03/2023 11:12

Mine used to bring me voles poor tiny wee things don’t stand a chance but she’s given up being an outside cat for the lazy life and my other girl doesn’t appear to hunt, I don’t want them bringing dead or half dead wildlife in to me. I’d be glad and the mouse is safe

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/03/2023 11:15

Lucky you! Can step out of the back door without slipping on innards.

Thank your lucky stars!

boboshmobo · 05/03/2023 11:18

I save mice from my cats , why would you want to encourage it 😫

Maggiethecat · 05/03/2023 12:03

@boboshmobo - I’d rather not have mice in my house!

Mice are natural prey for cats (most)?

What sort of house do you live in where there are mice in it ? I know they are but cars are cruel and fling them about for ages before they die . Poor feckers

amylou8 · 05/03/2023 12:08

Are you sure Lola didn't bring the mouse in for your enjoyment? One of mine does this, we get lots of live ones. Fortunately his brother is much more competent, finishes the job and disposes of the evidence.

Mine couldn't catch a cold. He brought me a leaf once

ComeTheFckOnBridget · 05/03/2023 12:24

I was late with breakfast this morning so mine caught her own 🙄😄

Darthwazette · 05/03/2023 12:29

My cat brings me live frogs. We had three one morning, hopping around.

FlosCampi · 05/03/2023 12:59

The injured ones we get brought aren't because the cats can't kill them, they are training mice for us to finish off . The mice have been slightly maimed as we are just beginners so need a helping paw. As we improve, we will be allowed to progress onto live magpies delivered to our pillow while we are sleeping ( one of my recent experiences).

That's hilarious !

My old tabby used to hunt not much, my new cat looks like he’d kiss them, such a gentleman, no swiping or hissing either of them.
Billy only been here since Tuesday, he’s fab and very handsome at 7

Cat One and Two are very efficient mice eradicators. They also eliminate flies, lizards and butterflies. Cat Three can’t catch a feather toy. I have no idea how he survived as a stray.

Mine was also a stray. For FOUR years Confused
I think he just batted his eyelashes at people for food

My bid, black scary Tom cat can’t kill anything. He’s scared of most things including birds and the DCs rabbits that live in that garden. The odd mouse he has brought home, we reckon had died of natural causes and he’s just picked them up 😁
