Anyones cats on long term NSAIDs?

I've posted before about boy cat and his elbow dysplasia, which happened to him at quite a young age.

He's happily bimbled along with it for the past few years, and metacam and the like was very much an "as and when" thing - a bottle lasted us a whole year. Since the cold weather came in before Christmas it's been affecting him more and more, to the point where he's hopping a lot and the "as and when" has become almost daily. He does respond to it but it's become clear he needs it every day.

Off to the vet tonight to discuss him being on NSAID's daily, with the appropriate checks, before we decide on anything more drastic. I know it can cause kidney issues, but I'll take him for the regular blood tests etc.

Anyone else been through similar? He's the happiest little guy, eats and drinks well and is generally just really cheery. Makes me so sad to see him hopping around like a big ginger bunny.

My big boy is on metacam for his arthritis, has been for the last two years and he turns 15 in May. He gets his bloods checked regularly and as there's no side effects with him like diarrhoea, he seems very well in himself.

What massively helped mine was using YuMove capsules and a wheat heat pad for their bed. Needed less pain relief.

Our cat has been taking Loxicom daily for the past 6 years. He doesn't have blood tests (I'd like to see them try as they can't even check his teeth without losing some of their own blood) but has to have a checkup once a year so that they continue prescribing. He has arthritis (has had it since he was very young) and the Loxicom allows him to jump, climb, run and walk (without limping). No negative side effects.

Thanks everyone. We went yesterday and he's on metacam or equivalent for the foreseeable. Blood tests did not go well and he swore a lot 🤣

The vet is calling me this afternoon regarding his blood tests... I'm scared now :(

Ask them about solensia if you’d prefer an alternative
