Whiskas

ProseccoOnIce · 28/02/2023 07:58

I've noticed that Whiskas has been re-packed in recent weeks.

The sachets, instead of being 100g, are now 85g and seem to have more jelly & less solid meat in them.

The price of the multipacks has not changed but the quality has deteriorated.

Any one else noticed?

What other cat food are people using instead?

Yep. There has been a few posts about this.
You will get people saying whiskas is rubbish and not healthy anyway BUT it was the only cat food my adopted cat would eat. I’m now throwing most of it out each feed. The texture of it has changed as well, the meat is smaller and more shredded so I’m assuming the taste has changed too.
I actually emailed them to complain but I am now on the hunt to find something she will eat. She wouldn’t even eat whiskas out of tins she so fussy!

PlatinumBrunette · 28/02/2023 22:46

Ugh same! One cat won’t eat anything other than old whiskas, so a big problem. He seems to like one of the fish flavours, out of four, but that’s a damn expensive way to shop. I’m going to try Felix on him.
thankfully the other two are only mildly fussy (who am I kidding!) but it’s a nightmare.

Theoldwrinkley · 28/02/2023 22:51

Our 3 cats were on Felix for ages but one batch either had something 'wrong' or change to recipe and would not eat it. They were fussy (no fish) anyway. So after much trial and error (and ££) they will eat whiskas. If they have changed the formula now we will be back to square one.

We feed our cat, Aldi pate Square tins. Felix sachets, Liddle pate square tins.
Tescos pate. He also has Tuna (for hoomans!) Pilchards in tomato sauce ( for hoomans) He's longhair so James Wellbeloved Hair Beloved Biscuits to help prevent hair balls. And, his absolute favourite chicken thighs. We do try and aim for variety, but honestly they can be so choosy.

Oh bugger. I've just bought a large internet order of the new Whiskers. I assumed they were just rebranding 😩
We also have a fussy old girl. She has a pouch of expensive posh food in the evening and pricey biscuits, but we offset the cost by making her breakfast Whiskers. She won't eat Felix, Lidl, or a number of other cheaper pouches we've tried. Here's hoping the new 'improved' recipe is acceptable to her delicate palate...

I'm having the same issue.
The cat had finally accepted the previous version of whiskas but is rejecting the new one.

She pesters for food while there is a plate of whiskas sitting there. It goes dry and crusty so we offer a new one. Same thing happens, has a sniff/taste and walks away.

I've tried other brands, from the real cheap to the more expensive, dry, tins, pouches, pates, etc. It is doing my head in. I don't know what to try next.

She was pestering me the other day while I was on teams meeting wfh. I had a whole conversation with her about there being starving cats in the world and if she was hungry enough she would eat it. Told her about the wasted money trying all the cat foods , that she doesn't live in a 5 star hotel, and that there is a cost of livng crisis impacting my shoping choices. I told her the next time im going shopping she can come with me to choose her food and I wont put up with anymore fussiness. The whole time she was walking across my desk, headbutting me and meowing in response to my very valid points.

You've guessed it, I had forgotten to put myself back on mute and now my whole team knows about dcats fussiness and my frustrated cat parenting. One colleague said her cat was similarly fussy so she now cooks some frozen fish for it everyday. 😯 I referred her back to my point about us not living in 5 star Hotel and the cost of living crisis. I'd I do it once, dcat will expect it everyday....at least until I bulk buy fish to make it cheaper at which point she will turn her nose up at it.

Yes, our cat won't flipping eat it now. He's getting old so we're indulging him with lick e lix yoghurts and treat sticks with chicken because that's all he'll eat. I miss being able to just put some wet food and biscuits down!

Carlycat · 01/03/2023 00:43

My rabble ( 6 rescues ) have a mixture of Felix as good as it looks and Gourmet perle
Plus Lick e liks as treats and tuna loins at the weekend ( bloody expensive! )
Dry food is Sanabelle and Smila adult and early renal for my old girl

LadyJ2023 · 01/03/2023 02:29

Our cats also stopped eating whiskers after years on it I never thought about recipe change now they eat tuna lol

AloudAlot · 01/03/2023 12:09

@LadyJ2023 Tuna isn’t idea for cats, though they love it, it can lead to taurine deficiency, amongst other things, that can cause serious health issues or even kill them.

Canned Tuna Health Risks for Cats

First and foremost, it is worth noting that too much tuna (whether it’s fresh or canned) can be harmful to your cat. Tuna alone is not an adequate meal that can provide a good balance of nutrients for your cat. In addition, tuna is high in mercury, which can lead to mercury poisoning in your cat despite being rare. Symptoms of mercury poisoning in cats include loss of coordination and balance, difficulty walking, and more.

Important! Tuna is exceptionally appealing to cats, and if they’re fed regularly, they might avoid eating their regular cat food to favor canned tuna. Do not overindulge them as they can develop into picky eaters with feeding difficulties.
