I’m in shock and devastated. Our wonderful cat just suddenly died. She was only 9 and never ill before, found her struggling to breathe about an hour ago, took her to emergency vet and she suddenly stopped breathing. There was nothing they could do and they have no reason why. She has been eating fine all day, no houseplants etc. nothing out of the ordinary. I can’t believe I’m not going to see her again, just sat here crying and wondering what on earth happened. I thought we’d have a long time together yet, she was so loved by the whole family.

So sorry to read that @Sunnysideup24 it must be a real shock . Will you get a PM to find out what happened ?
I had this years ago and didnt have one but I have always wondered what caused my cats death .

Sunnysideup24 · 28/02/2023 05:45

@ScottBakula We brought her home from the vet with us, it is likely to have been a heart problem but I just can’t get my head around her being fine before bed, eating her dinner, no signs of illness and now she’s gone. It doesn’t seem quite real yet. I don’t think a pm would help really, no vomiting or anything so I don’t think it was poison although I’ll let our neighbours with cats know just in case.

I'm so very sorry.

My cat also just suddenly became ill out of nowhere with a heart condition. She struggled on for a while but we had to have her pts as she just wouldn't eat for weeks.

RIP your lovely cat.

I am so sorry sunnyside up 24.
It is truly awful and such a shock. You will be devastated. Be kind to yourself and take care. 💐

I’m so sorry, you must be in shock.

My 11 month old cat passed suddenly in January in similar circumstances. I found her breathing rapidly early evening, took her to the emergency vets and she passed away in the night. They said the most likely cause was a blood clot.

Be kind to yourself, and talk about her here if you would like to x

Honeyroar · 02/03/2023 13:28

I’m really sorry. That must have been a shock and very upsetting. Hope you’re ok.

Sunnysideup24 · 02/03/2023 14:11

Thank you everyone for being so kind. I still keep thinking I’ll open the door and she’ll be there. Just seems unreal at the moment but I think it’ll slowly sink in at some point. Can’t quite bring myself to clear away her toys and bowls at the moment but there’s no rush.

Same happened to my friend's cat - perfectly healthy 7yo (had his MoT just 3 months before), was 100% fine, friend went upstairs & found him dead in his favorite sleeping place. He DID have a post mortem, and the vet said it was a congenital heart defects that wouldn't have shown up in normal checks.

It took him ages to get over the guilt of not having done something to prevent it, even though there was no way he could have known.

RosesAndHellebores · 02/03/2023 21:22

@Sunnysideup24 it's horrid isn't it when it's so sudden and there's no warning. He was cherished and had a good life.
