Kitten not growing/shrinking

Hi all, our family has recently adopted 2 boy kittens from a shelter - approx 14 weeks old now. They were strays brought in to the shelter with their mother and another kitten. Initially the boys were thriving and the bigger one still is (OMG he can eat and play for the two of them!) but now the little one (who is the runt of the litter) is rapidly losing weight (40g per day since I started tracking on Thursday and is now only 710g) and has diarrhea (started on Weds). He is still eating and drinking but not playing. We have been to see 2 vets, including the one who has treated him since being rescued by the shelter and basically the only thing they could offer/suggest was some probiotic paste (not fun to get in him) and gastro food. Is there anything else I can offer to help him? I am not feeling overly positive of a recovery for him so would equally welcome some good news stories.

Has he been tested for nasties like FIV, cat flu or feline leukaemia? FIV is important as it can be transmitted from mother to kitten, and you also need to check the other kitten isn’t a carrier. Not impressed by your vet so far, TBH.

How's he doing today?

I’d be seeing a different vet if you can.

Has he had his vaccinations? Sounds like cat flu...

Sad update: He seemed to be doing slightly better on Sunday morning and afternoon (Probiotics seemed to be slowly kicking in) but on Sunday evening, one minute he was trying to jump on my DD's bed and an hour later he drastically went downhill and passed away during the night. The DC's are understandably devastated. We had seen 2 vets (separate practices)and I was going back today.

Very sorry to hear your news.

I’m so sorry x

So sorry on your loss

Oh, how very sad. You did all you could for him. It might have been a congenital illness if he never fully thrived. His short life was clearly filled with love Flowers
