It will be fine, will be out the other end soon. An inch isn't anywhere near long enough to get wrapped around anything or snagged. It'll get nicely wrapped in poop and come out unscathed.
Had a dog eat a cotton hankie once... had what can only be described as an 'arse flag' for a couple of days... no I'll effects. I'm sure kitty will be fine 🙂

Theunamedcat · 13/02/2023 20:24

An inch? Should be fine mine chewed up then threw up balloon string (the ribbon type) no idea what they coat it with but he goes after them like it's cat crack flavoured I thought shutting it in another room would work but NOOOO someone opened the door 😕 fortunately he threw it all back up within minutes

I love my cat my BANK BALANCE does not

Toddlerteaplease · 13/02/2023 20:45

@Theunamedcat my bank balance is going non contact with my cats. One has had a scale and polish today and the other one needs emergency surgery tomorrow!

Arse flag 😂
My cat ate some red rubber wire (a long piece) as a kitten and it was also half out half in. Didn’t know what it was at the time and I rang the vet saying I thought it was a prolapse 😁 He was given laxatives to pass it.
Think an inch of string won’t cause any issues. They are a worry!

Pinkysunset · 13/02/2023 20:52

It’ll be fine. My childhood cat repeatedly ate string off of roast beef joints. We used to snip the shitty string off as it came through. That was a very dim cat.

BarbaraofSeville · 13/02/2023 21:05

It will be fine.

I foster rescue cats and some string started to appear out of the arse of one of our new arrivals after a few hours.

I was about to give it a really gentle tug just to see what it was when the cat ran away from me leaving about 3 inches of string in my hand.

It was the type of string from a roast that she'd obviously stolen from the house she'd been picked up from because we almost never have meat like that. Kept an eye on her, no ill effects as far as I could tell.

Plump82 · 13/02/2023 21:09

An inch should be fine but please be careful with what she's playing with.
My old cat ate Christmas ribbon which ended up tying up her intestines. She was on death's door but miraculously pulled through.
Ribbon or string of any kind is now banned from our house with our new cats.

FurAndFeathers · 13/02/2023 21:09

Monitor carefully.
an inch is unlikely to cause issues but if it gets snagged in a loop of intestines you can get serious problems.
just keep an eye on eating and pooping for a few days

RosaCaramella · 13/02/2023 21:20

Should be fine but look out for vomiting, not eating nor drinking in the next few days. I’ve had this happen twice with one of my dogs (once she swallowed a nylon stocking she apparently found on a beach, second with a towel she “ate” at home) and she was at deaths’s door on both occasions. Only major surgery kept her alive. Animals (like humans) can be incredibly stupid at times!
Hope your kitty passes the string with no issues.

Thank you all for the reassurance. New toy, he'd literally had it about a minute before he chewed the tail off. Toy now been taken away! He seems fine in himself, still charging around from the cat nip high & still able to bite me when I tried to take it from him 🤷‍♀️ will keep an eye & will look forward to an interesting liter tray tomorrow

Picture of the fool to say thanks 😊

Aww, he's a beaut 😍

Allergictoironing · 14/02/2023 07:01

What a handsome boy! He's gorgeous.

I have rather long hairover half way down my back. Occasionally the cats will manage to ingest a hair or two, and they will poo "sausages" with bits of poo strung out down a length of hair. Does make it easier to find all the poo when they've had a really good scratch & bury session though!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/02/2023 07:24

He is a handsome fellow.

Ludo19 · 14/02/2023 18:54

Oh OP your cat is absolutely gorgeous 😍

mondaytosunday · 14/02/2023 19:54

My cats snack on Christmas lametta- comes out the other end all crinkly 🤪

Dancingfairydreams · 15/02/2023 18:05

Aww thanks 😊 only had him 4.5 weeks, he'd settled so well!

No sign of the string yet....I'm sure he laughs when I'm going through the litter tray checking the poo 💩 🙄

He's absolutely fine in himself btw

One of mine does the same with my hair, and I end up with cat poo bunting! 😂
