Introducing a new kitten...

We have a gorgeous 14 week kitten. He weighs 1.6kg and the vets have said he needs to be 2.0kg to get his gentleman's op. So not far off given how much he eats!
Originally we were getting his brother but that fell through. We'd like another kitten as always envisioned having 2. Do I introduce another kitten now or after the op and does it make a difference if the new kitten is male or female? Looking at getting a rescue this time.

This is him when we first got him. The app won't let me post a more recent picture of my little hooligan!

He’s quite young at 14 weeks to be sexually active so I’d go ahead and get another kitten (I’m not a vet so don’t know for sure when they are capable of mating!) He’ll be 2kg before you know it. My experience is that the closer the age between cats, the easier it is for them all to get on. I’m currently considering returning a kitten to the breeder as kit is terrified of my two older cats (they are 2 and 3 years old sisters) and has been in hiding since we brought her home. It is heart-breaking.
in your situation, I’d get another male. They recover from neutering ops very quickly. Your kitten is super cute. 😻

Thanks @RosaCaramella my thoughts were the same that the sooner the better. I guess I was concerned his op might disrupt the dynamic and should I wait. He's got all the signs of not being happy unless he's an outdoor cat so I need to factor in timings for a new kitten being ready for that when he's clearly a few weeks ahead on that one. It's like having toddlers!
