Lucky escape for our idiot cat!

We had a plumber in today. He left an access hatch to the hot water tank open and unattended for a few minutes. In that time, LancreWowCat managed to get his head very firmly wedged between the pipework. DH was alerted by the horrid noises LWC was making.

DH and the plumber attempted to dislodge him. DH has numerous wounds on his hands to show for his trouble. LWC then emptied his bladder all over the plumber. The plumber's mate arrived, and between the three of them, they managed to push the pipes apart enough to release him. LWC retreated at speed to behind the sofa, where he remained for a good couple of hours.

He seems fine now - has accepted fuss and dreamies, and doesn't seem to have any painful spots around his skull and neck, so seems to have escaped with all but his dignity intact.

If I sound blase about it - I'm really not. He gave us a terrible fright, he was clearly absolutely terrified, and he's a very special little boy for a variety of reasons. I'm so relieved he is OK, but dear lord, he is an idiot!

Oh poor boy!!

Allergictoironing · 07/02/2023 15:49

Sounds like the kind of thing Boycat would have done - except he wouldn't have been out of hiding when there was a plumber in the house!

Yesthatismychildsigh · 07/02/2023 15:56

There’s a reason cat rhymes with Twat, speaking as cat staff myself.

One of the puncture wounds on DH's hand is starting to look a bit dodgy - it's gone hot and swollen. I think it might be a bite rather than a scratch, so I've sent him off the chemist for some advice. Hopefully he won't end up in A&E!

He needs to draw a line round it, so you can see if it gets bigger. If it does, then A&E tonight or GP first thing in the morning. I would say minor injuries, but my local one won't prescribe antibiotics!

007DoubleOSeven · 07/02/2023 16:21

Don't mess about with cat bites. See if the gp can squeeze him in today (or at least phone consultation) and get anti biotics. If he can't be seen, don't hesitate to go to a&e later on- cat bites can get very nasty, very quickly.

AnnaMagnani · 07/02/2023 16:24

He needs antibiotics now!

Learnt this after rescuing my cat with bare hands. The infection sets in within min. tes

AnnaMagnani · 07/02/2023 16:31

No need for drawing a line - my hand was twice the size within an hour.

Hoping you are on phone to GP now.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 07/02/2023 16:50

Aww, poor boy. Trapped by evil pipes in a clear attempt by the plumber, the plumbers mate and his own dad to murder him using the old “leave a hatch door open” ruse.

LancreWowhawk · 07/02/2023 16:53

Yes, don't worry, we're keeping a very close eye on it - the slightest sign of it worsening, and we'll be on the phone to the out of ours GP (DH gets a private service through work). DH is not one to suffer in silence!

LWC is snoozing on DD's bed.

What an adventure! I hope your husband's hand is ok, OP.

ValerieDoonican · 07/02/2023 16:56

I hope the plumber has forgiven him!

Nutrigrainygoodness · 07/02/2023 16:57

Is dcat a lone cat or was he egged on by some dodgy mates?

Hope the hand isn't too painful.

LancreWowhawk · 07/02/2023 17:34

LWC is sadly recently a lone cat - his equally stupid but very much missed brother died in December. So he has only himself to blame!

LWC only has one eye. We don't know why, it was missing when he was rescued. I think today's 'sticking his head where it doesn't belong' incident goes some way to explaining it!

Can we have a pic of said feline?
