Sturdy scratching post

Gobolino80 · 03/02/2023 19:40

Our 2 large boys need a tall, study scratching post that they can't pull over and won't wobble. Has anyone successfully found one? There's loads online but without seeing them it's hard to tell if they will be sturdy enough

We have this https://amzn.eu/d/3pRQGMd

Ours haven't managed to pull it over.

notonmywatch28 · 03/02/2023 19:52

This one has been popular with our young cats who played on it , and our current middle aged rescue uses it daily to sharpen her claws . It's a decent height for cats to properly stretch up and use it .

I have this one from Zooplus

CobraChicken · 04/02/2023 07:33

You need one like this - I have a different brand (I'm not in the UK) but the size and style is basically the same. Even my 18lb beast of a cat doesn't move it at all when he's really going at it!

PortiasBiscuit · 04/02/2023 07:37

If you type “big boy scratching post” into Amazon you’ll see a selection

CobraChicken · 04/02/2023 07:39

The cat sat on top is 18lbs. The other is normal sized 😆

Another vote for the one cobrachicken posted. My cat has had that one for a year, she uses it a lot and it still looks like new.

Serano · 04/02/2023 09:23

And it's sturdy in that it doesn't move at all.

thecatneuterer · 04/02/2023 10:01

The Cobrachicken one. They're amazing. All cats love them. They last forever and there's no mess with bits of sisal all over the place. And the bottom is mdf rather than carpet so doesn't get grotty. Or you could spend your hard earned cash on a 5' tall 3' wide multiple level house/tower that takes up half your lounge and still have them saunter past it to sharpen their jaggy bits on your new sofa ....

@PortiasBiscuit I think typing up anything "Big Boy" on Amazon will lead me down a path I don't want to travel Wink

Gobolino80 · 04/02/2023 16:53

Thanks everyone! @CobraChicken I had been looking at that one on Amazon but was dithering as to whether it would be sturdy or enough or not, thanks for confirming! That is a very sturdy cat you have there too

@70isaLimitNotaTarget that made me chuckle. I spent 30 quid on a cat bed for one of them who likes sleeping in front of the heater. He's completely ignored it and has spent the last few weeks sleeping on a Tesco bag for life that I randomly put on the kitchen table one day.

This. It's expensive but will be the only one you ever buy

@user1471518104 that is a great cat tree, I wish I had room for one of those! What beautiful cats you have too.

Ha! Yes, that's our one - well, we actually have 3 of them. For some reason I couldn't find it but I had forgotten what the brand name was, so that didn't help. The Amazon own brand one looks close enough that I'm sure it's equally good and it's a bit cheaper.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/02/2023 23:06

Gratuitous photo of our little boy (not so little he;s 4.4kg) in one of the sleeping beds .

Ahhhhh

Have had one of these for 6 years, only one my cat hasn't destroyed, definitely worth it!

I bought this one and it stands up to a Maine Coone using it.

GreenBiscuitr · 04/02/2023 23:30

I wouldn't bother. I've had 7 cats through my life and not one of them has ever used a scratching post. The most effective thing I found that they all loved insanely was those foam garden kneeler pads. Especially the ones from Poundland. They can really sink their claws in deeply and get a good tear.

adhdpunchbag · 05/02/2023 05:59

I have the flat, wall mounted ones, less clutter on the floor.

LeatherSoledShoes · 05/02/2023 06:22

I’ve got the cobra chicken one too - very sturdy.

Danceswithweasels · 05/02/2023 09:32

I have a regular one, just screwed it to the floor 😂

atomickitty · 05/02/2023 12:14

We have this one, “petface big boy” £30 from Argos www.argos.co.uk/product/8203586

It stands up well to my big cat scratching it; he pulls over lesser scratching posts. The smaller cat sprints across the room and launches herself onto the side of it during zoomie hours, doesn’t budge.

Furries · 06/02/2023 03:41

I’ve got a couple of these - very sturdy. And a favourite sleeping spot, or perch to watch what’s going on out the window.

I got mine from Kalven. It's very solid and still looking good after about 6 years.
