How do you keep dining chairs clean?!

Ridiculous question but we have 4 dining chairs with seat cushions that our 3 cats like to sit/sleep on. They shed a lot of hair despite being brushed daily. With muddy paws, treat crumbs and the odd bit of mouth dribble the seat cushions take a hammering and we have to throw them out every 3 months or so because they don’t come clean in the wash. No one will sit at the table to eat unless the cushions are moved but then everyone is uncomfortable sitting on bare wood chairs! So how do you keep yours clean?! Do you put extra pet mats on top of the seat cushions? (If there is such a thing!) Do you keep your pets off the chairs? Or what do you do?! Tips please!

Why don’t you prop the seat pads up, or take them off, when not being sat on by humans?
We just sit on wooden chairs & put the cats cushion on one of the chairs when not in use by us. Funny how we’ve been trained to provide padding for the cat but not people!

We did prop them up but then the cat hair from the seat still makes its way onto clothes! Yes, funny we put the cats comfort above our own!

Take the cushions off when you're not sitting down? Or old tea towels on the cushions for the cats?

We bought chair covers from Amazon. I’ve got leather style chairs that the cat likes to use as a scratch post. I put an old towel over each chair then put a chair cover over the top

Fortunately my cats don't dribble.
We just (sometimes) de-fur the seats before use. We've also got a couple of old wooden dining chairs without cushions that make life much easier.

Thank you. I might give extra chair covers and old towels a go and maybe start to encourage them to lounge around someplace else!

Could you not just get cushions with properly washable covers? We have these on our kitchen bench and chairs. The cats love to sleep on them, so cat hair, mucky paws and crumbs are a given plus the ocasional food stain. They wash beautifully and cat hair is easily removed with the right hoover attachment or a lint roller.

I also have upholstered velvet dining chairs (basically a cheaper version of the Gubi beetle chair) that are a big favourite with my cats but very low-maintenance. Velvet is generally a good choice with cats as they can't pull any threads when clawing into it, so it will stay looking nice for much longer than most fabrics.

We put an old towel on DCat's favourite chair

Sorry, forgot the link in my earlier post:

We used to put a small towel or pet blanket on the cushion, then remove when we wanted to sit and washed regularly.

Leather chairs. Job done.
