Cat missing for 24 hours and I’m devastated.

I don’t want to make this too long, will try to keep short.
Shes an older cat at least 14 years old, wee bit frail.
She has only lived with us for almost a year (used to be relatives cat) in different area.
She is very much a house cat and only ever wanted out at night for 5-10 minutes.

Longest she’s ever stayed out is 30 mins.
She went out last night at 11pm and hasn’t been seen or heard of since and I’m going out of my mind with worry, it’s so so unlike her. She’s such a lap cat and enjoys nothing more than sleeping on the couch.
I’m just saying this as I’ve always had cats and know they can sometimes wander for days but this is not like her at all. Never been out for more than 30 mins and suddenly she’s gone 24 hours.

I’m so worried. We’ve posted all over Facebook and I drove checking all the roads today just in case. Checked every sort of ‘neighbourhood/awareness/cats’ page I can, no reports of a cat being bit or injured.

Ive put her litter tray, food bowl and a box with a throw from the couch in it. Been out all day and night looking and calling for her.

I don’t know what else to do and I’m absolutely beside myself with worry. I don’t really know why I’m posting this except for the fact I can’t focus my mind on anything else.😥

Update - the camera has caught two cats eating the tuna we left out but it’s 100% not her sadly.
Going to remove the food as apparently the blanket and litter tray should be enough scent along with the bits from inside the hoover.

I am beginning to lose hope and I am so upset.

Thinking of you, l hate it when cats do this 😔. Lots of vibes she returns soon. Smallest cat did this for 3 nights once (in neighbours garage) and middle puss did this for 2 (not sure where she was but came back stinking of booze and fags -so maybe in the local pub?!)

seventynine · 24/01/2023 21:56

Don't lose hope, we once had a cat that went missing for 6 weeks! I had definitely lost all hope by that point. But all the photos and posters and posts on Social Media helped to find her eventually. I would be very happy to pay for some poster printing if you want to DM me, genuine offer, I know how distressing the not knowing is.

This has some useful advice and a missing cat poster to download

Hoping for better news for you today OP.

Our neighbour started feeding a cat that wandered by and has pretty much taken up joint custody of it... it's obvious it's someone else's cat, but the cat now has two feeders.

Hopefully this is all that's happened... she crashed at a mate's:)

Get those posters printed and put up all over town - bus stops/outside schools/colleges wherever lots of people will see.

My cat was missing for 4 months before a man spotted a poster and brought her home (he'd had her in his flat all that time 🤨).

SHE’S BACK!!!!
Returned last night at 0230am bawling and starving hungry. Seemed quite shaken up but she’s absolutely grand today.
So so happy. All is right with the (my) world again!
