Cat on moving house day

I'm trying to work out how to look after my cat best on house moving day.
We can't take her to the new house (luckily very near our current house) until everything is moved into it, otherwise the front door there will be open most of the time and she might escape. But I'm also concerned about her getting hurt if she's wandering our current house while we moving everything. Can't obvs leave her in her car carrier thingy all day. Also what if she's having a wander when it's time to take her?!
How do you manage it?

@Nannyfannybanny I'd foolishly imagined it a bit like a cat kindergarten, with playtimes! 😂

My boy went to the cattery for a week whilst we moved and did some essential work that would have been disruptive for him (house cat!).

However, he goes there when we go on holiday, it’s somewhere he likes and does well in and he needs frequent monitoring because of a health condition so they cover that for us too.

I think if I had one that hated cattery I would do the one room until the last minute, into a box and transport to new house and put cat in a single room with a sign on the door to not enter!

While we packed up our cat was shut in the spare room with his litter tray. Then he moved with us in his carrier and went into the office room while we unpacked the other end. It wasn't his favourite thing but it was better than him not being with us.

This is almost what I did also

Kept them safe and I knew where they were

Then kept in one room other end until all was in and door closed

Settled within an hour , kept inside about 5 days

Used a cattery, as he's pretty nervous and came to us as a stray so we knew he wouldn't cope with the chaos of the removal men. Kept him in for a few days once we brought him into the new house and he was absolutely fine.

Nooo. Lots of kennels are like this but in catteries cats are kept separate!

I put mine in a large & xl dog crate with a litter tray and water bowl, had 4 cats at the time, all were fine if a little perplexed. I didn’t feed mine until after we had moved as 2 get car sick. I put them in a room which was more or less empty and put their beds etc in.

They then went in the boot of the car! And moved into a spare room and left to settle

I also use some calming spray in the dog crates

I would clear one room of the old house, put the cat in there with food, water and litter and lock the door.

Move everything to the new house, then get cats into carriers, set up their litter trays, food and water, bring them into the new house, show them where everything is and let them explore.

My mum's spare bedroom with litter tray and food/water and a familiar blanket/bed til we were straight enough at the new house to fetch him. Sure it wasn't the most fun day for him but better than risking him being scared with all the upheaval and/or getting out accidentally.
