Neighbours cat ?

Hi have a local cat that frequents my house . I don't feed it but it drinks from the dogs water bowl .

Has collar , plump , looks well cared for

This morning I've found him sat under a bush in my frozen garden .

I opened the door and he came charging in , it's frozen solid outside .

I can't close my door because he howls but I'm having to leave the door ajar and cold myself because he just wants to sit on the mat .

Any suggestions ? He clearly doesn't want to be out in the cold but not happy if I close him in here . Should I just put him out and he will head home?

Have previously tried to work out who he belongs to with no avail .

Cats do this.
I have a stripey cat outside my back door miaowing at the moment. He appears several times a day, every day. He is not my cat. He will not freeze to death, (well he certainly hasn't yet 🤣).

I put straw in a kennel that belonged to my old cat, I have feral using it ( ferals came from irresponsible neighbours that let their un neutered cat keep having litters and not taking any responsibility for the resulting kittens, they have been reported several times to RSPCA).
I was told straw is better for warmth than blankets.

I think you need to concentrate on finding this cat's owner - have you tried posting on FB, Next Door etc? Failing that I would be taking him/her to the vets to see if they have a microchip with the owner's details.

No. Why?

According to the OP, the cat has a collar, looks well cared for and is "plump".

Just leave the bloody cat alone.

@kittensinthekitchen the OP asked for advice, that's why!!

No blankets or towels please. They freeze. Either straw or polystyrene or both, is much better.

Update .... yowling cat has gone home for today!

  • I put the box outside & removed the towel. Going to look at getting one of these outdoor cat boxes

  • I already had posted on a few fb pages and street whatsapp chat although I am going to knock on the neighbours behind me to understand who owns him - he certainly has a home and I am pretty sure they have dogs as "he" is very confident with them

Although I am just hoping our many foxes won't use it!

Generally I like to open my doors and air the place out and he often just appears and disappears quite regularly , appearing sat on my sofa when I've nipped upstairs!

Here is a photo of the feline offender ; this photo is NOT from today.

I don't know anything about cats but he is gorgeous and chunky ... so maybe I will have to peruse some rescues for a similar one of my own :D

He's a stunner OP! Cats are awesome 🤩

Going by those cheek pouches he was neutered late or he's still got his balls.

No wonder hes confident with dogs.

catandcoffee · 19/01/2023 22:15

He's got some attitude with that stare. he's gorgeous
