Adding another cat to the family?

I have 2 gorgeous sibling male/female cats that are approx 3 years old. The boy cat is definitely the leader, with the female cat being more skittish/anxious by nature. They get on very well and are happy cats. I am thinking of adding another 1 or 2 cats to our family but only if I can be as sure as i can be that it is the right thing to do for my 2 existing cats. My questions are:

  1. what sex should the new cat be in I already have a male and a female cat?
  2. what age should the new cat be? Older or younger than my cats?
  3. Is it better to add 1 new cat or 2 cats (another pair of siblings)?
  4. How do I introduce the cats to each other?
Obviously I know that I can't guarantee all the cats will get on but if I do add to my cat family I want to make sure I am doing everything possible to ensure success! I would be grateful for the advice of experienced cat owners please!😻
