Settling a foster cat

My DD2 has just taken in a 3 year old cat.
Her owners are relatives of ours, in rented housing and the new Landlord has banned animals :( (previous one was fine) The family have tried to find other places to rent with no luck and the poor cat has been living for a few days at a time in various peoples houses :(
DD2 lost her/my beloved Ophie to cancer last year and has desperately missed having a cat and so she and her dh offered to take the cat and either foster her for as long as needed...or permanently. I picked up the cat today (good as gold on a 2 hour drive) and on arrival we popped her in DD2's bedroom with litter/ food/water as we thought she would need to hide and just get used to yet another home.

We feel so sorry for her, she seems a sweet little thing, and really hope that she can settle ..she will be loved! She's also used to toddlers and my grandson is very well trained in not bothering any of our pets so don't think that will be an issue.

But she's had a traumatic few months...is there anything we can do to help her adjust to yet another home?
