Cat visiting every night

We live in Australia and it’s the long school holidays. Because of this, our 16 year old is staying up late watching crap Netflix series. We have 2 cats, theoretically indoor/outdoor but most of the time indoor. It’s hot so various sliding doors are partially open until she goes to bed.

My DD has noticed that every night between 11-12 a cat either climbs up onto our deck or squeezes under the door and comes inside to eat our ginger cat’s food. Our ginger cat has sat in her lap, and doesn’t seem to care, although he can be a bit of a fighter.

She says the invading cat runs away if she stands up, but will wait for up to an hour if she’s there, then as soon as she heads to bed, will try to get back in. We have a missing cats Facebook group locally and she’s phoned the owners and none of them have a cat that matches his description. He/she is mainly black with a white belly and looks like he has a moustache😀, so distinctive. DD says in the brief looks she gets of the cat, he/she looks ok. She’s tried taking a photo but all that’s visible is glowing cat eyes. There are quite a few cats in the neighbourhood, but I feel like we know which houses most of them belong to.

Do you think this sounds like a lost cat, or stray cat or just an opportunist cat? I don’t want to stay up and try to catch a cat that has a home nearby.
