The cat flap gets filthy

Our catflap is located in a position that is easy for MrCat to access, but inconvenient for big, clumsy humans to access. It probably just needs a quick wipe over once or twice a week, but, because I don't do that, it quickly gets disgustingly dirty and crusted with greasy grime. Then I have to squirm into the awkward corner and scrub it with detergent.

Is there such a thing as disposable cat flap covers? Like flushable toilet seat covers.

Could you not reach it with a mop?

Clarich007 · 03/01/2023 15:11

Oh, I've no idea about disposable covers.
I've got a microchip Sureflap. I have to clean it every few days to keep the sensors clean.
Would you just put the covers on at night, otherwise how would the cat get in and out 😻😁

A mop is not practical because the cat flap is behind a curtain. Using a mop would wet the curtain. When I squirm into the corner to clean the flap I have to lift the curtain onto a chair. And vacuum the part MrCat brushes under.

Not something that seals off the flap. Something more like Flushable Paper Toilet Seat Covers, where the paper frame would cover the cat flap frame, and the paper flap (which hangs inside the toilet when you use a paper seat cover) would cover the flap, so that I could just peel it off and bin/flush/compost it when it got skanky. Even better if there's a whole pad of them attached to the cat flap, so I wouldn't even have to attach the new one.

I’m struggling to visualise the set up but what you’re after sounds a bit niche tbh.

could you fashion something yourself out of foil maybe? (The cat might not like it)

WildFlowerBees · 16/01/2023 18:14

Magic sponge. I have to clean mine regularly, filthy sods. 😻

CurlsLDN · 16/01/2023 18:17

If it’s in a tight corner, behind a curtain, why does it need to stay spotless? I’m sure the cat won’t mind

Dilbertian · 16/01/2023 18:39

There's a middle ground between spotless and crusted!
