Please help- what should I do before our Dcat is cremated.

Hi

This week we had to put our cat to sleep. I am beyond devastated and can’t stop crying. They are being cremated in a few days but last night I found myself thinking I should ask the vet for some paw prints and a little bit of his lovely fur before they go for cremation. Is there anything else I should be asking for before he’s cremated and it’s too late?

I don’t want to regret not doing anything but I’m in such a state I can’t think straight.

I am so sorry about your dcat it's the worst part of being owned by a cat. My heart goes out to you. Honestly I think you have asked for everything. What are you going to do with dcats ashes?

Toddlerteaplease · 17/12/2022 23:15

Get an ink less print kit. I wasn't keen on the plaster print from the vet. The ink less one can be used to order..paw print mementos. I have a silver key ring with prints on and they also have stamps to sign cards. The company I used is called cheeky little prints.

I've got fur clippings and paw prints from DDog. DH was a bit surprised when they offered the fur and I accepted but when we picked him up to bring him home DH eyes filled and he's glad I said yes. They took a mixture of all the different colours in his fur so ask for that if DCat is a mix of colours,

I'm having his paw tattood on my foot so he's always on a walk with me. I miss him terribly, big hugs from me OP.

I’m so sorry to hear about your Cat, I too lost my cat a few months ago and so I understand how you must be feeling, it’s devastating.
Have you arranged for your cat’s ashes to come back to you? We did, and our Bluebell is resting in a lovely box which has a woodland of Bluebells scene covering it.
I double checked that she would be cremated on her own, which was slightly more expensive, just so I knew we’d only have our baby back.

We had a paw print ( in a foam looking casing) done too, which was hard to see at first, but I’m so glad we have it. Also, when asking for clippings of bluebells fur, I asked if we could have a fair amount, just so we could separate it for keepsakes for myself and my DC’s.

Thank you everyone.

the key ring is a nice idea thank you. We are having him cremated on his own so just him comes back to us and then I need to decide where in the house to put him.

thank you all for your kind words they really do help x

I was going to scatter my cat in my friends beautiful garden. But he was having it redone. Five years later, she's still in a box in the cupboard!

Toddlerteaplease · 18/12/2022 17:43

It just feels right having her there.

WunWun · 18/12/2022 17:45

Don't get the paw print, it's so grim. Every time you look at it you'll know that they pressed his poor lifeless paw against it.

PearlclutchersInc · 18/12/2022 17:46

Most pet crematoriums offer lovely little boxes (like urns) which are nice enough to sit out like an ornament (and not creepy). They're generally not too expensive either.

So sorry for your loss. We have some of our dog's ashes in a beautiful rainbow from www.iridescentglassdesign.co.uk/collections/forever-memories-new

That’s your opinion. But not everyone will think like that, and paw prints must give some comfort to many people, as they have me.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/12/2022 21:01

My girls paw prints were taken when they were alive and well. It was a bit tricky but they were remarkably cooperative. The company keep
Them on file.

My sister would put her pets' ashes in with a potted rose so she could take them when she moved.

I want to be buried — Will the funeral directors agree to things like the wee wooden box my darling DCat’s ashes are in being put in my coffin with me?

Mortimermay · 18/12/2022 22:34

The paw prints and fur sound like a lovely idea. We weren't offered either of those things when our cat was cremated, but they did make his ashes urn into a photo frame. He sits forever looking out of the window, his favourite place.
