Best Carpets for Scratchy Cats?

Our cats are quite bad at times and have damaged our current carpet in a couple of corners and on the face of the stairs.

I know to have scratching toys and mats and things out but is there a carpet that shows it less?

Will have hard wood downstairs but need carpet on stairs and upstairs.

Thanks!

Don't know how to describe it, but my carpet is a really flat pile. So not much to grab onto. Cheddar has had a go at the status but it's not horrendous.

Nothing with loops for sure.

Can you retrain then with a larger scratching post and catnip?

We found both our cats like flat scratching posts they can stand on when we tipped the post on its side one day, so it was on a slope and they both went wild on it. I think they liked being able to stand on it have a proper go at it, rather than reaching up. Has saved our carpets.

Thank you all! Yes we have a couple of scratching mats and will definitely get more. Interestingly ours are the lying down kind too rather than posts.
