Hello,
My cat has been on antibiotics for an abscess (cat bite), it burst yesterday and seems to have stopped leaking puss 👍.
Today he has been licking it and it looks raw. My question....will this heal on its own or does it need stitches? The hole is about 15mm wide. Anyone with cat healing knowledge before I take him to vet tomorrow unnecessarily?
Thank you.

My vet told me that the abcess has to stay open to get the infection out. Just use lightly salted water to clean it. Keep an eye and you might get away without paying for the vet

Thank you. It's just such a sore looking hole!

When mine had a large abscess burst I took him to the vet. He came out with stitches and a drain tube fitted. I cried at the sight of it, but it heeled well.

Take him to the vet. Don't deny animals health care.

I’d ring in the morning or email a photo to them.
