Cat bringing mice in

My cat is driving me mad, he keeps bringing live mice into the house because he likes chase them about in the warm. I was just sat down to watch something and he's let one go in the lounge and now I think it's climbed up between the curtain and the lining......grrr!!

Lock the catflap, so much easier when they have to miaow to be let in!

Whataboutno · 06/12/2022 21:57

Mine does this so she's not allowed a cat flap for this reason!

We have a roaming as yet uncaptured mouse from the weekend when Cat 1 brought a mouse in to present to DH, her favourite person, and Cat 2 thought - as I do - that DH wouldn't really like a mouse in his bedroom at 2am so attacked Cat 1 and in the action the bloody mouse escaped. Both cats are agreed that at some point the mouse was in the hall, but neither can be arsed to actually catch the bloody thing. I am just waiting for the maggots to appear.

I've had to crack down. Cat flap is exit only and she's kept in all night. The final straw was a massive rat in the kitchen when I was ill last week and didn't lock her in. I hate litter trays but it's stopped her bringing them in and in the spring I'll just keep her out overnight instead. Ratbag she is.

My cat jumped onto my bed with a mouse this week - WTAF

There is a cat flap in design stages called Only cat which won't open if it detects Cat carrying prey.

I feel strangly relieved that I'm not the only person with a rogue mouse loose in the house @SixCharactersinSearchofanAuthor.

He can be such a nuisance, he only does it when it's very cold or very wet. I did learn early on that he should be shut out of bedrooms when we sleep. Not sure I could handle a mouse in my bed!

@Sunshineandrainbow I would pay a lot of money for one of these.

@TheHauntedPencilCase rats 😲, if he ever does that he may be going to live with my neighbour who keeps trying to tempt him into their house.

We have a ring camera on the catflap so at least now we can do a in/out body count review overnight. I don't know if that's a good thing though, perhaps ignorance would be bliss.

WonderingWanda · 06/12/2022 22:21

He's buggered off to sleep somewhere upstairs now leaving me to sit and wait for the mouse to reappear. If I ever want to sell my house he will have to go to the cattery so viewers don't think we actually have mice!

Laughing at the ring on the catflap, I'd love to see my cat trying to sneak things in! I am amazed how many people do have catflaps for this reason alone!

bridgetjonesmassivepants · 06/12/2022 22:33

I hate it when my cats used to do this. Luckily they have got older and no longer seem as I tetested in mice or shrews.
One of my cats once bought a baby rat into the bedroom. I found it when I pulled back the duvet, that was a nice surprise.

WonderingWanda · 06/12/2022 22:41

That's it, he just came in with another one and dropped it by the same door curtain. Both cat and curtain are now in the garden and the cat flap is locked!

A collar and bells?

A collar and bells?

@musicalfrog He's like Houdini and loses them as soon as he goes out, although he still does it with one on. We live by fields so there's a lot of mice to find.

House cat, it's the way forward. Have to play with him more but it's fun and a good work break. Also we play on his terms which I find hilarious but that's me .

Sister's cat's favourite was to bring in a live mouse, torment it under the marital bed then leave it until the stink alerted sis and Bol. Or, worse, the victim assumed deceased struggled out into said marital bed in the middle of the night

The funniest thing I have ever seen on the camera is the cat dragging a live pigeon towards the cat flap, and then the cat can't work out how to get close enough to activate the microchip and hold the pigeon, all to a background noise of screaming and shouting from inside the house. The cat puts the pigeon down just for a second to work it out, the pigeon pretends to be dead, the cat gets the flap open and turns to pick the pigeon up ..... which then flies off.
