My cat has been shot.

Two weeks ago we lost our beloved pooch at just ten years old.
A week later our one year old cat was quiet and had scabs on her head in front of wither ear. I had some antibiotics left over from the dog so I checked weights etc and started her on these thinking she had been in a cat fight.
She's been eating like a horse (normal) drinking normally and still jumping onto beds, windowsills etc.
I was in work overnight and Dh text me asking if cats can self harm as she had been in all night but her sore looked open and sore again and there was scanned fur on her bed.
When I got in this morning I gave her a really thorough check (I had done a quick one after the 'fight')
I felt a lump which I thought was maybe a scab but on closer inspection it was metal and firmly stuck. At this point she was getting very cross so I let her go. (She's a very independent cat who isn't cuddly at all )
I sent a message to our vet who got her in first thing. I had to sleep to Dh took her and they have agreed it's a pellet and because we couldn't guarantee she hadn't eaten overnight they've booked her in for the morning to be anaesthetised, x-rayed and the pellet removed. She's been given steroids and antibiotics.
She's fine in herself so hopefully it's just this one and there are no others. They also think the head trauma might be stress related and have advised something like rescue remedy so I need to research that too.
I'm so angry that my sweet girl has been hurt like this on purpose.
What is wrong with some people 🤬

Blloody nasty bastard who did that...Angry

Hope your darling girl is ok

AliensToTheLeft · 07/12/2022 11:42

This happened to a friend of ours cat years ago. She was fine after the pellet was removed but became nervous of going outside. Who could blame her. Total cunts that do this. Wtf is wrong with some people.

The vet will get her sorted and she’ll be home with you very soon and feeling much better. The wait is horrible though. You’ll have to give her her favourite food to make up for ‘forgetting’ breakfast. 😉

Let is know how she is later if you can.

Urgi · 07/12/2022 12:18

When our cat was young (6/7 months old) he was put in a box and shot with an air riffle multiple times, for 'fun'.

He lived to be about 16, still with pellets in his side and one in his eye that the vet was too worried about removing because of causing further damage.

Thoughts are with you OP. There are some awful people in this world

PeopleAreTheWorst · 07/12/2022 14:23

She's home. She's had something to eat and is current giving her tail and back end a good clean 🫣
She seems pretty unfazed so far but I'll keep an eye on her.
The pellet was 3/4 of the way inside and is bigger than I expected. The x-ray cleared her of any other pellets inside.
She's to go back in in ten days to take the stitches out.
Thank you for all the replies. I'm so sorry so many of us have been through this. Did anyone else report to the police?

My cat has been shot.

That's horrific. Were you her owners then? Was she taken from your home?

Sorry 'he'?
I've worked in animal rescue so I've seen some grotty things but this has really shocked me.

Glad she is out of operation OP. Lots of cuddles for you and her 💕

It was one of his first times outside. He didn't come home and we were so worried. He was found in the box covered in blood, it broke my heart.

We did report it to the police who said it was kids, nothing further was done.

So pleased your little lady is home and doing Ok 💜

allmycats · 07/12/2022 14:41

I am more than willing to shoot the buggers who did this to your poor little cat.

Pelo2022 · 07/12/2022 14:46

I was watching that 24hrs in police custody and the guy who chased the burglars
People saying he could have stopped and thought. If it had been someone doing anything to my cat, I would have been him chasing after them Blush

I'm glad it's been removed

AliensToTheLeft · 07/12/2022 14:47

So pleased to hear she’s home and seems well OP, you must be very relieved. I forgot to say in my last post that she’s absolutely gorgeous. 😍

I hope something comes of reporting this, people that do this are absolute scum.

That’s horrendous. Poor baby. Humans really are awful.

Mylittlesandwich · 07/12/2022 14:53

Someone tried to shoot one of my cats with a pellet gun. Thankfully they only managed to smash one pane of our double glazing and the cat ran off terrified. People suck.

icegoose · 07/12/2022 14:59

My cat was shot with a pellet gun and died slowly ( vet did try and help) when I was a dc. It was horrible.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Cass was incredibly lucky that it didn't do any actual internal damage x

Wishing her a speedy recovery, what an awful shock for you. So sorry you have lost your beloved dog 💐

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 07/12/2022 15:22

Some c**t shot my cat when he was a kitten. The Vet had to remove his eye to take the bullet out but he lived for around another 18-20 years. Although not with us. He decided to reside with a couple and their Cat just round the corner

Thank you. It was such a shock. Still waiting for her to come round the corner or snore so loudly I have to turn the tv up 😭

Cats can self harm! Ours has. She's a nervous rescue, but has previously rubbed off all the fur above her eyes until it bled badly, it was very bad and sore and she ended up wearing a cone for weeks! She's OK now! I'm so sorry to hear about the shooting, it's awful I'm so sorry. I'm glad your cat is recovering well

CatChant · 07/12/2022 16:32

Glad to hear she’s home and on the way to recovery but so sad at all the other stories of wanton cruelty. There are too many truly horrible people in the world.

REP22 · 07/12/2022 16:33

I'm so sorry. I'm glad they were able to operate on your lovely cat and hope she mends well. I share the anger against the despicable gits who did this; I used to see this sort of thing a bit when I worked at an emergency vets; utterly heart-breaking. There was also a particular couple of neighbouring streets in a local town where resident cats were regularly brought in having consumed car anti-freeze, which had been deliberately "administered" to them. Awful. Most people knew who the likely culprit was - and indeed, the incidents did stop when he moved away from the area - but there was never sufficient proof. It was a very well-to-do place as well. Many incidents involving cats from different homes, all in the same immediate area.

I can't understand why people do this.

Every good wish to you and your lovely cat. x

Blueyismylife · 07/12/2022 16:36

PeopleAreTheWorst · 06/12/2022 18:51

I'm the same. I'm mild mannered but I would do some serious damage to them. The vet is going to send us a copy of the x-ray and I'm hoping it is just one.
She's eating normally and I'm dreading having to starve her in the morning. She will not be happy!
I don't think it will be accidental. We live near a large field that's used for rugby training and dog walking but Dh has said he has seen someone with an air rifle sized bag walking past months ago. I'll be reporting it to the police via crime stoppers.

She's beautiful. People can be so cruel. :(

Good idea to report to police

@MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat

Love your last sentence! Cats do that, don't they? They're totally egocentric and will move in with anyone if they think they're going to get a better deal.
