Cats alone too much, not sure what to do

I have 2 brother cats and since my son went to university they've been alone much more - I go to see my dp at least one night a week, often 2. I think they are fighting more now and one is possibly bullying the other.

Not sure what to try. Could Feliway help? My son will be home at the weekend so in the short term we may be ok but I need to do something.

Are they both neutered?

PermanentTemporary · 01/12/2022 21:40

Yes.

Are they indoor cats? I wonder if they are bored? Do they have plenty of stimulation when you're not there?

PermanentTemporary · 02/12/2022 06:04

No, they can go outside. One is much more adventurous than the other.

Do they have plenty of space apart from each other in the house? Lots of cat trees and shelving and cosy spaces to hide?

PermanentTemporary · 02/12/2022 06:27

I would have thought there's enough space but it's true I don't have much in the way of cat trees.

Who feeds them when you leave for 2 nights?

PermanentTemporary · 02/12/2022 06:30

Mostly a friend or a neighbour. I do have an automated feeder but only use that for the one night stays.

I would start by catifying your space.

So, cat trees - ideally one for each cat if they fight. Maybe a couple of horizontal scratch pads too.

Make sure they have enough space so they can eat/drink separately if they choose to, and also that they have access to multiple litter trays so they're not feeling as though they need to fight over resources.

I would personally have chip feeders so that they can only access their own food. When someone comes in to feed, they need to do it in separate rooms if possible.

Feliway friends has been good for helping our two indoor cats be happier with each other.

Definitely worth a try!

Good advice above. Make sure there are enough resources for both and spaces they can get away from each other.
I have 3 cats and find Feliway very helpful for the one who gets a bit antsy with the others!
