Cat versus Christmas tree

This is my first Christmas with a cat. He’s 2ish and loves to climb the shelves, kitchen cupboards, bookcase, etc. I’d love a Christmas tree, but I fear I’d spend every waking moment, and many where I should be asleep removing him from the tree, picking up decorations, and stopping him from pulling it all over.

Any ideas how to have a cat-proof tree, or creative alternatives?

I've had cats all my life. I've also had many a Christmas tree and to my dismay, I have never had a cat climb up it so I could take a cute photo of their face peeking out from between the branches.

The only suggestions I have is to avoid any decorations that look like either birds or mice, skip the valuable vintage glass baubles, don't use lametta, and unplug the lights when you aren't actually in the room.

Oh, and if you have a cat who will eat anything, don't hang chocolate decorations on the tree either! NDN's cat once ate all the low-down ones on our tree one night when she was accidentally in our house instead of theirs.

I posted this on another thread recently...... you can't stop them. I didn't put ornaments on the bottom branches but she still got in it. And batted a load of the higher ones 🤣🤣 just go with the flow.

That is the best tree ornament ever!

My four have been ok so far, I’ve had year where they’ve been inside the tree, toppled the tree, we’ve found baubles in the bath etc. I just go with the flow it’s fun seeing their antics each year (it’s either that or you will be driven crazy). We’ve had a bit of hiding underneath it and pouncing on each other and having a wee chew of the branches on the way past. The oldest two are too fat to climb it now. I thought the year old kitten might go mad but he’s been not too bad. I just loaded up their cat tree with cat nip 🤣
