Inoperable tumor

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on what's happening to my boy. He went to the vet 6 weeks ago for an infection in his gum from what we thought was a rotten tooth. Whilst he was under anaesthetic, the vet called to say he has an inoperable tumor and it's growing up his jaw. Biopsy taken etc. Fast forward a week and the results were in.......no signs of cancer! Amazing!!

He was put on antibiotics and we cracked on. But this lump seemed to start growing on the outside of his little face. Now it's maybe the size of a 5p and smooth, like his gums. The vet is baffled and has no idea what it is but she thinks it's cancer so she's prescribed steroids and painkillers. What on earth could this be!! We know he won't have long left but just can't understand how the test have come back no cancer

Get a second opinion that's the only advice I can offer. I do hope you get some answers one way or another OP

The biopsy only tells you about the small piece that was sent away if that didn't include any cancer cells it will have given the wrong answer.
