I can’t decide on one or both!

We have a 7 year old boy and have picked out a kitten to have a home trial so we can extend the family. Thought about it for a while, I prefer adult cats myself but with our boy we thought best to go as young as possible rather than him clashing in territory over an adult cat.

however

I have just been up to the rescue to spend some time with her, and I’ve fallen in love with her sister too. She’s slightly withdrawn and looks a little under developed compared to the kitten we have selected who is bright confident and bouncy. The reason reason we didn’t go for the shy sister is that she seemed to be a bit more of a risk with her health, she just seemed a bit off and over anxious, looked a little dopier than her sisters and couldn’t quite follow my finger - no where near as alert as the others were.

I cannot stop thinking about her. My heart is breaking over it. Why is it so difficult?

Ive been thinking bout whether it would be ideal to bring them both home especially with having my older boy at the risk of kitten annoying him too much. What are peoples thoughts over the situation? Has anyone ever brought two kittens home at once and what is the situation with insurance and things like with multiple cats?

Get both. We got 2 gorgeous ginger boys who have been a total joy. So many times I watched them playing as kittens and wondered where that energy would have gone if we’d only taken 1 kitten! Go for it.

TokyoSushi · 15/11/2022 18:12

Yay! You couldn't leave her by herself OP!

Shinyandnew1 · 15/11/2022 18:15

Do you mean you have an older boy (human!) or an older boy cat? Sorry if that’s a daft question!

We have a similar aged girl cat whose brother (they didn’t really actually have much to do with each other!) died earlier in the year and we are getting a kitten soon. DH was thinking we should get a pair as they will occupy each other but I was thinking if we just got one, our older girl might take to the newby and
mother him?! I thought she might be a bit overwhelmed if we turn up with two!!

Any thoughts from other seasoned cat owners?

Do you all spend a fortune on cat insurance as well??

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/11/2022 18:42

When I got our adult rescue she was so quiet and obedient. Now she has me bullied into taking all meals upstairs to eat on our bed 🤦🏻‍♀️ and rules the roost.

Igotthegoose · 15/11/2022 18:42

@Shinyandnew1 we have an older tabby (Bear) who is very used to being the only one getting attention in the house ( we have two kids as well but they don’t count 🤣)

So we were a little unsure at first but we have moved to a bigger home and I’m working from home, I’m alone a lot in the evenings and I would love a house full of love. On observing him with other cats, he is curious rather than threatened or threatening. We had a new one sniffing around his territory yesterday and he wanted to go outside to watch her. He was sat there happily observing his new friend purring away! Never been one to fight either he just wants to make friends I think. He’s got a lovely temperament just wants cuddles. We picked him up off the street Years ago, very sad back story, was terribly poorly had to have bladder surgery etc and now he’s thriving and happy (but lazy). I’m hoping it brings him out of his shell a bit.

I’ve just got quite a decent quote for lifetime cover for all three. I was fully expecting well over 60 per month but it turns out it’s more affordable than I thought.

Pictures of big brother Bear to follow.

Igotthegoose · 15/11/2022 18:51

@TwoMonthsOff i never thought of singing that to him, thanks for the tip. I’m sure he will love it. We call the catstronaut version of him ‘Space Bear’

😻😻

Pixiedust1234 · 15/11/2022 19:36

Bear is beautiful, and your partner is a good egg. It would be heartbreaking for the little one to lose both siblings in quick succession. She just needs to be loved...

😂

GodspeedJune · 15/11/2022 19:43

So pleased you’re having them both. You won’t regret it.

Igotthegoose · 17/11/2022 22:19

Thanks to the encouragement from you lot our TWO new baby girls are arriving tomorrow!

Me and the big boy have just set up their new room, and he has played with their new toys in between

Hes being a good big brother. He had to check them all out from a health and safety point of view. I hope he got to taste test some kitten treats too 😂

Igotthegoose · 17/11/2022 22:29

He is very intuitive he fully knows something is happening. He’s prowling around the house tonight. Little does he know the mischief that is going to be bestowed upon him.

I will update tomorrow on their arrival. They are coming in my two hour lunch break and I am fully prepared for not getting much work done in the afternoon!

Oo keep us posted! Hopefully this will turn out like the other new kitten post!

Supersimkin2 · 17/11/2022 22:54

Big bro is adorable. Congrats on the twins’ arrival too.

Igotthegoose · 18/11/2022 14:31

They are here! Purring away as soon as I brought the carrier out of the car, not shy at all, we have had a play and some food and now I’m sat downstairs working and it sounds like they are trashing the place in their room above me. I can just hear the odd floorboard and loads of little paws running about 🤣

Beautiful! Hope they're doing well

CatChant · 18/11/2022 17:28

They are beautiful and your self-discipline is extraordinary OP. To carry on working when there are new kittens to play with! I’d never manage it.
