Cats and Christmas trees.

Hi all, looking for some advice as to how to manage our three year old Maine Coon and a Christmas tree.

We got her in 2019 and have not had a Christmas tree up since then for various reasons (illness in 2019, had one outside in 2020 and we went away for Xmas to a decorated cottage last year) but we would like to this year. How do you all manage to have a Christmas tree and a cat without the tree getting destroyed or your car getting hurt?

Dcat is an indoors cat so she will be around the tree all the time.

Any tried and tested methods for keeping both cat and tree safe?

Ours will pull baubles off, but typically doesn't interfere with the tree itself. In 2020 we got a fake tree as a one-off because I needed early Christmas sparkle amidst the Covid gloom - pretty much every day we would hear a crash followed by the cat scarpering up the hall like something out of a cartoon.

Good tips everyone. I'm hopeful I might be able to have one this year.

Our Ragdoll likes to sleep under the tree, and he and the moggy are keen tinsel inspectors ( she has zero interest in tree), calico newbie is a menace so am expecting carnage when the tree goes up 🙀

When I had a kitten 6 years ago, he did climb the (real) tree but nothing came to any harm - just resulted in cute photos such as you can see on this thread. The tree certainly didnt topple over as the kitten was too light.

Last year, I had 2 kittens and anticipated mayhem. Weirdly, they left the tree completely alone.

You cant predict these things but cat plus tree doesnt automatically mean chaos.

How did you get on with the tree? I’ve 2 Maine Coon kittens this year who’ll be six months by Christmas and it only just occurred to me to worry!
