An aversion to soft comfy cat beds

Anyone else's feline do anything to avoid getting into a nice cosy cat bed, and instead favour ANYWHERE else? A patch of floor, the baby's changing mat or a nice pile of washing?

I just tried to put Mr Toasted onto his cat bed and he flung all four legs out to avoid it, digging his claws into a box behind it and then dramatically running off.

Why?!

Yes, mine won't go in a cat bed. I put blankets on the sofa and bed and they do use those.

Boy cats favourite place in the world is a cold, hard plastic windowsill.

Longdarkcloud · 10/11/2022 16:25

You’ve just got a difficult one. My last boy was exactly like that and I wasted more than I could afford on beds and bedding. Yet the 30odd cats I had previously loved a nice soft bed. He wouldn’t even walk over a sheepskin rug — it was like he thought it was alive. (Though he would sleep on my pillow)
Most disappointing, isn’t it?

My cat has a clear pattern. Starts off in warm cosy place. Gets too warm. Lies on cool surface. Gets too cold. Back to warm cosy place (but must be a different one!). Repeat.

None of these places are her cat bed. Obviously 😆

Yes! We have a fluffy wool rug and dcat plays “rug is lava” - walks carefully around the edge of it. And then fights its tassels.

One of mine lies on the carpet beside the horizontal cat scratcher. The other favours a computer chair. They do like cardboard boxes so we have a few on them about. I bought a cardboard box bed and one cat seems to like it.

I do sometimes find one in my clean washing basket too. Normally the black clothes that show up the hair best!

That's cats for you..
Its a rule that the more you spend the less it will be appreciated. Shove a newspaper on the floor, and look like you're reading it. That'll be exactly where dcat needs to sleep.

This!

We’ve given up buying cat beds. They’re an arbitrary human concept and are shunned by our feline overlord. DCat just rotates around a series of random spots instead.

My cat ignores his lovely bed, and instead favours the bathroom floor or his cardboard scratcher. He has an afternoon nap on a chair, but ignores all other soft furnishings.

BayCityTrollers · 12/11/2022 20:02

i bought several cat beds in anticipation of Dcat coming to us, she has never used any of them🤷‍♀️

She likes cardboard cat scratchers to sleep on, the rectangular box ones that as a ragdoll, she is much too big for, the door mat, a patch of rug, anywhere but a cozy cat bed. She does sleep on our bed at night generally by our feet and then move for a snack and go back to her scratcher.

PeloFondo · 12/11/2022 20:04

Mine loves his cat scratcher too! Although he does use his beds, especially his teepee

Blowyourowntrumpet · 12/11/2022 20:06

My car absolutely loves his bed

cliffdiver · 12/11/2022 20:07

Every time he goes near it, say "no" - then he'll want to use it.
