Lesion on lip

Our lovely boy is getting old, he's about 14 now and he went to the vets last week as he has a lesion on his lip. The vet said that it could be cancerous but he didn't suggest we do anything about it. This evening I've noticed it's bleeding. He's eaten his tea and skipped off outside so I've not had chance to look at it properly. Just wondering if anyone has had experience of this before.
I did a quick google and it implied that if it is cancer then cats don't last very long. We had already decided that we wouldn't put him through any traumatic treatments. I just wanted some advice on the best way to deal with this if anyone has been through it themselves.

I'd personally take him back to the vet.

Yes we are going to call them tomorrow. It's definitely bleeding more over the last couple of days. I just don't know what they will do as it's in a really awkward place. Feel so sorry for him.

Could it be a rodent ulcer?

Ludo19 · 31/10/2022 13:42

Hooe you get on OK at the vets and it turns out to be nothing too concerning.

Unfortunately he took a strange turn today. Just got back from the vets who said that he looks like he's had a stroke. He's dropped 1kilo in weight in 10 days. They have said that they could investigate the cancer but any treatment would only prolong his life by a couple of months. We are just keeping him comfortable for as long as we can but I think we will be making a tough decision sooner rather than later. My poor boy.

The first visit the vets did give him a medication that would have helped the leision if it wasn't cancerous but it is definitely worse then it was & then with the stroke it's not great.

Sorry to hear about your lovely boy, thinking of you.

Thank you. He's a great cat. He's currently snuggled up on the dogs bed showing him he's still the boss.

Oh OP, I'm so sorry to read your update.

mac1974 · 01/11/2022 20:20

@Ludo19 thank you.
Randomly he's perked up a bit today. Last night he was so sleepy I didn't think he would be with us this morning but he's had a little mooch in the garden today & went for a sleep in his fave spot down the road but came back when I called him in. Still slept lots & not walking 100% normally but he's not dragging his feet as he was yesterday & he's eaten quite well. We will just keep giving him all the love we can until the bad days outweigh the good x

He's just come up on the sofa for cuddles. He is spending more time with me & coming when I call him which is unusual as he has selective deafness like the kids do. I think he knows he's poorly.

Usually they do know where they're poorly so he'll be looking for extra cuddles. Are the vets positive he had a stroke? Could he maybe have a slipped disc or a torn ligament. Are they certain he has cancer too? You'll know what's best for your boy. He sounds like he's well loved. I hope he continues to eat etc xx

mac1974 · 02/11/2022 17:56

@Ludo19 he seemed to think it was a neurological event and tbh I really agreed with him but he's just come down the stairs & jumped on the kitchen table so who knows! He has slept all night and day though. He's a mess. Covered in blood on his legs from where his mouth has been bleeding so I'll need to try to clean him tonight.

Oh I'm so sorry, I remember I woke up one morning and my girl had a nosebleed (I'm a vet nurse) managed to stop the bleeding but it was due to high blood pressure secondary to lymphoma but she was 19. I hope your boy will be comfortable and you'll shower him with love.

mac1974 · 13/11/2022 11:17

Unfortunately our gorgeous boy had a seizure in the night. We took him to the emergency vets and he was pts. I wonder if he had a seizure before which was what made his back legs go. We will miss him and his antics very much.
