Introducing a new cat and a new dog

Hi all hoping for some advice. My dd is moving back home from abroad for at least a year, and she is bringing her dog and cat with her. Cat is female and about 4 years old, dog is also female, small breed, about 3 years old. We took in a one year female cat last year as her owner had developed an allergy, she is just over two now. She is a brilliant little cat and we love her to bits, but we are worried about how things will work out with our new arrivals. I have been reading online and see that we should introduce them slowly, have a minimum of 2 litter boxes, and use feliway plug ins to reduce stress. Keeping them apart for a long period of time won't be easy as we will be pretty overcrowded but we will do our best. I was wondering if others on here have had a similar experience and if they have any other tips. Tia.

all will work out fine after the initial hissing, barking & chaos! I’ve had rescue animals all my life & no situation hasn’t worked itself right in the end.

feliways are good (keep windows shut) keep them all separate so the resident cat can get used to her new family arriving. Let her have the run of say downstairs, separated by a baby gate so they can all see/smell each other. Just take it slowly…

ime, it goes like this 1)hissing & general disgust & unacceptable 2) still pissed off but in the same area, ignoring each other 3)accepting & friends! Just takes time & patience!

good luck!

Thanks StarDolphins, not looking forward to it at all, it's already such a busy household with 4 adults and a teenager, and I am worried our cat won't cope. (Or me). Good to know that it can work out, thanks for tips.
