Behaviour changed, trauma or just getting older?

Our cat is approx 11 years old. She's always been a bit aloof except at bedtime when she insists on sitting on me.

At Christmas she was attacked by a new cat in the neighbourhood, she needed surgery and nearly didn't make it. Since she healed up, she's started talking to me a lot. In fact she only learnt to miaow properly this year; before that it was a kind of half hearted "meh".

Now she's insisting on sitting on my lap or shoulder most hours of the day.

The vet says she is small but OK, and she had a full range of tests a year ago because she regurgitates a lot. All tests were clear.

Do older cats get clingy? Or is she reacting to her attack? It's getting more pronounced as the months go by. I love the affection but it feels strange from a previously "feed me then leave me alone" cat!

Yes. I think that older cats do get clingy. My teenage hood cat was never a lap cat until he got older.

But she could be feeling a bit shaken after the attack and you are her safe place.

Thanks, I'm keeping an eye on her and hopefully she's just healthy but affectionate!
