Fleas

Right removed all bedding currently on a 60 wash, all soft furnishings sprayed or bagged waiting to be washed. Indorexed THE WHOLE HOUSE. Flea treated the cats with advantage closest thing I could get thanks to the delays with Royal Mail.

I've hoovered every single nook and cranny I could find and emptied the Hoover outside each time.
So what now? I'm keen to treat this as our new baby is due soon and we need to start building the cot up etc. what else can I do??
Cats are also scratching like crazy now is this because the treatment is working? Usually my husband does it whilst I'm away so I don't see what they are actually like with it on!. Thanks

So I'm going to spray the house again. Why is it one cat out of 2 always has baby fleas on them but the other one doesn't? Ones fluffy ones short hair? Just combed her now and found 6 fleas again! How much longer will this go on for? Losing hope with this now.

I think I'm at breaking point with these now and currently considering rehoming them both. Can't take it much longer. Sad

You'll still have to deal with the fleas even if you re home them.

Are you coming them every day? The new ones won't be able to breed so they will die out it's just a matter of time.

You need to get Bravecto, Advantage didn't work at all for us. I think you need to get it from the vet. Since we've used this we haven't seen any and it's been a couple of years now. Plus I indorex the house twice a year just in case.

PaisleyP · 30/10/2022 20:35

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor I have done all of this. And still combing daily and still finding them. I've read that if no animals are in the house they won't just live off human blood? Ive indorexed the house and boil washed every thing I possibly can. I just think this is it now. We can't continue like this

@PaisleyP the reason I found this thread is because we have fleas in our house and have no pets at all. We have no idea where they have come from but are feasting on Dh, luckily he is so paranoid about them now that he finds them on his feet before they bite. So even if you rehome your cats you are probably still going to have fleas.

I came on here to find the best treatment for the house. I have just ordered some Indorex from Amazon.

But have you treated the cats with Bravecto as Advantage is useless in my experience?

PaisleyP · 03/11/2022 21:16

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor Yeah just combed another 6 live fleas of the cat now. Fed up big time of it. Don't know what else to do anymore

But they will die off as they've been on the cat and have been poisoned by the Bravecto. Are you letting the cats have free reign of the house as that's really important?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/11/2022 23:16

They will be dying off, it took about a month to get rid of ours and that was a huge infestation - bastard cat kept fighting with the big thug cats and kept bringing them in!!

You could try a bug bomb. How many times have you used to Indorex? You need to use about 2 cans in a 3 bed house to do it properly.

Creamegg18 · 03/11/2022 23:29

Try Advocate pipettes which is prescribed by the vets and see if that helps. I use this flea treatment now on both my cats. We had fleas this summer and my poor DD got bitten quite badly but it seemed to have been resolved with Indorex and changing one indoor cat using Frontline to both cats using Advocate.

Got2besoon · 03/11/2022 23:40

Make sure you empty the hoover in the garden after using it. Otherwise, they could be using the hoover as their little home.

When hoovering, focus on the dark/warm spot like under rugs, under sofas, behind curtains etc.

Got2besoon · 03/11/2022 23:41

You can also get an exterminator for fleas to come to the home.

Make sure you're treating any other pets you have (rabbits, dogs)

meowzeer · 04/11/2022 00:08

If you have any linen cupboards the cats have been in wash the bedding/towels. I've had a couple of flea outbreaks from pulling out some bedding I'd not used in a while. I find frontline spot on the best and the red spray bottle from amazon, advail I think for the house works.

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor Hi we've used 2 full cans on our house. Got another 2 cans to re spray again just to see if it helps. When I'm combing the cat and removing all the fleas they don't seem to be dying they seem alert and alive Confused

They won't be able to breed though,it stops the cycle. A second lot of Indorex is needed 2 weeks after the first lot so you're well overdue.

PaisleyP · 04/11/2022 13:50

Ooh I didn't know that it said it'll be working for up to a year.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/11/2022 18:20

Don't lose heart , just keep going. Hoover like a demon EVERYWHERE, then spray including hard floors, kitchen and then don't hoover or mop for about 4 days. Empty hoover bag and spray some Indorex in the bag to stop them breeding and put it straight in your wheelie bin.

PaisleyP · 16/11/2022 20:25

I'm so confused it's still happening. We've sprayed twice now and they've been treated a few times in this whole time since we've fleas and I'm still combing around 4 of a day of one cat only and today it was ten! Some are baby fleas some are adults.
I was actually bitten today on the ankle which has upset me. I just can't deal with it anymore. It's been around 3 months now I'm sure. I'm just so confused why it's only ever one cat only and I've never ever found anything on the other cat Confused.

What was the last spot on you used on them?

Miss03852 · 17/11/2022 00:18

Why aren’t you flea combing? This is by far the most important thing. Advantage is useless.

Miss03852 · 17/11/2022 00:19

Oh sorry just seen you are combing!

Miss03852 · 17/11/2022 00:23

We had fleas which we’ve rid of now, remember you constantly hoover as 95% of the eggs, larve are not on cat itself, and so the eggs will hatch a flea on your carpet and the flea will find the cat and start feeding on it and laying 20+ eggs per day.
Also flea comb for a long time, I did over an hour a day, I’d make sure all the fleas were combed up from the cat each day.

Have you been to the vets and got a prescription product, without this you are not going to win the battle. Flea treatment really is something you buy cheap buy twice.
