Moving home with my cat

I’m looking for some advice please regarding my cat.

I have recently sold my house, with the hope that something suitable would come up for sale in my area. I have 4 weeks until I need to move out and it’s looking like I will need to move in with my brother who lives with his wife, 3 young kids, and 3 cats. Even if I do find something in the next week, by the time I get mortgage sorted it will be another 6 weeks to complete so there will be at least week where I need alternative accommodation. Rentals where I stay are nearly impossible as it’s a popular tourist place with everyone looking to move here.

My issue is worrying about my cat. He is an outdoor cat who can get in and out whenever he wants through the cat flap. I’ve had to put him into a cattery before and think he was pretty miserable. The thought of trying to move home with him and get him settled in at new home is bad enough, but having to move into a bedroom at my brother’s house with my child and cat is making me feeling anxious.

what will be the least stressful for him - locked in the bedroom with us or is going to a cattery?

Then there is the actual moving house and getting him settled there without him getting lost.

It's going to have to be a cattery. He might not like it all that much, but he will be totally safe, and won't get stressed out anywhere near as much as the alternative option. You can then leave him there until a day or two after you have moved in to your new home, and get a bolt-hole ready for him. Some catteries have pens with a cat flap to a secure individual outdoor run, so maybe look for one of those. It is better to choose one that is cats only, and not a kennels as well.

Do you have a friend that could look after him for a few weeks?

thanks for both of your replies.

I’ve tried the two local catteries after posting this and they are not open when I need to move. I will try further afield. No friends that can help unfortunately. They either have pets or their own or dislike cats. My boy is a bit funny with strangers anyway and is antisocial!
