So my beautiful almost 15 year old girl has been diagnosed with this
any success stories?
apparently caught in time. Started meds which she is taking thankfully
All other blood markers are normal, but I am so worried about her. Have had her since she was 15 weeks old and she is so loved

My old girl had this. Successfully controlled with meds. She lived happily for years more!

KittenKins · 28/09/2022 22:44

She should be okay, most of the battle in this situation is getting the darn meds down. As the pair of you have mastered that, I wouldn't worry. Shop around for the meds, you can get the prescription (they may charge a fee), but once she has been on them for a while a 6 or 12 month script will be cheaper.

Whiskeypowers · 29/09/2022 09:52

She’s letting me syringe the meds directly into her mouth so that’s good. She is very gently so I’m lucky. The other two would have lacerated me by now!

that’s reassuring to know @Wolfiefan ☺️
and thanks for the tip re the prescription and cost @KittenKins . I’ve got a 30ml bottle that lasts her a month and is £33 so will see . She’s only on a small dose so fingers crossed

Good luck. We lost old girl eventually. It had nothing to do with thyroid at all.

My sweet cat (16.5 years) has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. He’s on meds now, 2 times a day 2,5 mg of Felimazole. He’s doing great now. His fur is softer than before, and his obsessive behavior towards food has been normalized.

When you give your girl the right medication in the right dose, her prognosis will be good.

She’s already a bit perkier and her eyes look a little brighter. I hope

she’s the most beautiful gentle girl

She's beautiful. Mine had the radioiodine treatment. It cost several thousand pounds, but cured it and the insurance paid.

Whiskeypowers · 01/10/2022 21:06

Thank you @Blowyourowntrumpet
She is loved so much I will do whatever I can to make her life happier and better

Oh, she looks lovely!

My boy had it, but we think he's a bit younger. We took him in as a stray, so can't be sure, but we thought he was about 12 when he started becoming ill. He had the radio iodine treatment. It was brilliant and he was better straight away. 2 years on he's regained the weight he'd lost and his condition is much better, too.

Wolfiefan · 01/10/2022 22:03

What a stunning puss! Wishing you the best with the meds.

RunnyPaint · 01/10/2022 22:06

(Old Lady) Best Cat had this, and medication (and a special diet for her kidney disease) gave her a few more happy years of best-catness. Make the most of every moment xx

Whiskeypowers · 06/10/2022 12:03

She’s taking her meds well and she is also happily guzzling her Katkin subscription food away. Her back isn’t as bony and she seems more settled so 🤞🏻

here she is hogging the dog bed 😊
