Need suggestions for blankets for sofas

Our very elderly cat seems to shed enough fur every day to fill a duvet. I've been putting blankets on the sofas to try and protect them but he keeps getting his claws caught in them and it distresses him (as well as ruining woven and chenille blankets.)

Can anyone recommend a felt blanket or similar - something that won't trap his claws but looks nice - ideally neutral block colour.

Posting so I can go and find the one I have and link it!

Here. Comes in other colours
It's actually the warmest blanket I have but the cat keeps stealing it
Or maybe a cheapo fleece type?

Can you trim his claws at all? If you've never done it before get professional advice as you have to be careful where you cut them.

I can't recommend a blanket as my boy pulls holes in everything!

Thank you! Great suggestions.
I really like the checked one @PeloFondo.
The fleece one looks really cosy, @Ccoffee.
@YesItsMeIDontCare - I just trimmed his claws for the first time today after reading up on why he seems to snag his claws on everything these days (arthritic legs mean he doesn't like using his scratch post as much.) Still had the old guinea pig claw clippers and he didn't mind at all, so he may not snag as badly now.

@goldfinchonthelawn - is he on any meds for his arthritis? Metacam made a massive difference to my Harley (gone but never forgotten) when he was getting on. He started jumping on beds again!

@YesItsMeIDontCare Not yet. Vet said it could be arthritis or old age. He's on meds for hyperthyroid but he does move very stiffly now and asks to be lifted onto beds and chairs though will do an awkward jump if no one is around to help him. He's nearly 18 though, so it could just be old age.
