I appear to have cats

Hi all, I am posting here for some advice please. I moved into a small country cottage three weeks ago and it appears that the previous owner left their cat behind 😮 One of the neighbours told me a few days later that they had left him behind. He had mostly been living outside but is slowly moving in - actually maybe not that slowly seeing as he is asleep on the sofa beside me right now.

So....do I just try and get him to a vet for a check up? I am assuming that he has been neutered but actually I don't know. Also will he need vaccinations etc?

Secondly - there are a LOT of cats around - the neighbour down the road is a farm and have 14....so when a mummy cat and baby were hanging around I assumed that they were from the farm. Turns out that they do not and now they seem to live in my shed.

So I have gone from no pets to one house cat and two ferals that basically appear to have moved in. I'm feeding them all but I am worried about the mummy and baby - the mum let me stroke her once and her belly seems kind of large. Could she be pregnant again?

I have wormed and flea-dropped the indoor boy (Apparently his name is Kevin) - should I do the same for the others?

First pic is the baby - he likes to hiss for attention at dinner time.

Second is Kevin - who is in the bad books for stealing a piece of chicken.

Third is mummy - I am worried about her potentially being or getting pregnant again.

BTW I am in NI.

Gary needs her own thread or a tv mini series with dramatised re-enactments with a subplot of a catholic girl falling for a Protestant farmer with a lot of land for cat rescue and a big aga for tray bakes.

And some mild peril where there's a huge row about the location of the toaster before all is forgiven when Gary is abducted by an angry seagull's Mum and the farmer rescues Gary and the girl from the top of a feed shed in a thunderstorm, leading to the inevitable hayloft reconciliation...

Gingerwarthog · 07/10/2022 18:09

Kevin and Mimmi get it together too and live happily ever after in one big fluffy cat basket.

Gingerwarthog · 07/10/2022 18:11

Oh and the very nice ex husband is on the scene in a will they / won't they get back together style....

In our TV Rom- com version OP, not in real life! X

Gingerwarthog · 07/10/2022 21:13

Come back OP.
We need updates!

@NeverDropYourMooncup I read that, honked like a goose and then read the username. I knew it would be you 😂

😄You should definitely do a Gary thread! The best cats are the batshit little black ones (side eyes demented tabby and fluffy tortie thing hogging sofa space and their giant furry doughnut that seems to have become a fixture in the middle).

YesitsBess · 08/10/2022 14:19

Ah, Twattycat Slartibartfast Templeton-Peck still as mad as ever I take it!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 08/10/2022 18:27

OMG! You remembered him!

Yes, he's still being his very strange and very, very special self. It was his birthday a couple of days ago, so DP stuck a bunch of cat sticks in his food like candles. The knob of a cat ended up with one poking in his ear as he tried to extract the others one by one - although I'm undecided whether it's the knob of a cat or the knob of a bloke who is most to blame for that one.

And it's clearly Autumn, as we've been roundly ignored at night since May, but the last week has seen us waking up with the Furry Wee Shite sleeping on our heads.

No Mouseageddon so far this year, though. Maybe he's finally accepting that he's a grown up cat who has no need for squishy baby mice when he can batter a particularly tasteful leopardprint Kickaroo.

YesitsBess · 08/10/2022 18:33

Hahahahaaaa at birthday Twatcat! And the vet story made me howl laughing so will never forget his name!

I’m hoping OP returns tonight with news. This thread has been a tonic all week…

TicTac80 · 08/10/2022 19:10

I’ve just read the whole thread and loved all of it! Thank you for taking on these guys. I’m sat here, surrounded by my four CatBastards and it’s just wonderful. XH keeps saying that we should get back together (not a chance!) but I’m happy being single and being surrounded by cats (and my DC of course). I’ll keep checking into this thread as it makes my heart sing .

and Gary…I bloody love Gary!!

for PP who mentioned getting the claw in the nostril, my 6m old MC kitten (who currently weighs 5kg) does that to me in the early mornings too. Wanker. I still love him though.

Evening all,

I am on day two of covid and I am not enjoying the experience to say the least. I woke yesterday morning with the worse headache ever and today a nasty cough has been added to the mix. I had gotten away without catching it for so long but it finally got me. Living alone with covid is crap but I have good friends and neighbours and my ex husband has just dropped around yogurt and grapes (for me as it is the only thing I want apart from curry) and cat food (including treat chicken). Oh and drugs.

Kevin has been hanging around a lot - as soon as I lie on my side on the bed or sofa he is on top of me (see picture of him lying on my hip).

Oh and Gary.....wow now that is a cat for sure 😁

I hope you recover speedily, that doesn’t sound any fun at all. But yay(?) for yoghurt-wielding ex and Kevin!

If I’d got Covid I’m fairly sure Gary would have just eaten me…

ZestyDragon · 08/10/2022 20:47

For those of you suggesting the Cats Protection I am in complete agreement but may hold off a while until farmer man forgets I live here..... As it will be very obvious that it is me that did it. Or wait till his cat mad mother is no longer with us. It is a tricky one. Or - and this is my favourite approach - sneakily catch cats one at a time and get them spayed. Immoral? Maybe....

@YesitsBess your white cat with the black ears looks a LOT like my Kevin! Gary though......well, that is a special cat for sure.

@Gingerwarthog - Gary would actually be a great name in the circumstances IF I were to acquire another cat. Which I won't. Ever.

Lol at the romance story - believe me I wouldn't say no to a nice protestant farmer (those boys are loaded) but one that still lives with his mother and has never had a woman in his life and can't cook is not for me. As for the ex husband - well he is a lot nicer now that he takes anti-anxiety meds but he literally almost drove me to a breakdown and suicide due to his rage at the time so there will be no going back. I am barely recovered to be honest.

Last night I managed to sit up for a while and decided to do a little crotchet. Kevin actually bit through the wool! And I had to then spend ages rolling up the wool. I feel he took advantage of my weakened state.

And lastly I have moved into the front living room as it has an electric fire and I haven't the energy to clean out the stove, carry coal etc. None of the cats have been in here and I stupidly left the back door open so when I went into the middle living room I found Mimmy on my seat and Kevin and Perry at the bloody wool again.

Then the two boys popped into look at the electic fire. I suspect they may be back. But everyone has been put outside for some fresh air and to give me a break (Kevin has been with me ALL day). Zesty needs a fucking break.

It’s Mimmys seat now.

Gingerwarthog · 08/10/2022 21:20

Yay @ZestyDragon - you're back in the room!
Sorry about your Covid (and the ex and the no-go farmer) but on the plus side you certainly have the love of a good cat there in the gorgeous Kevin.
When they curl up next to you when you're ill it's love.

Gingerwarthog · 08/10/2022 21:21

Although I could have done without mine sitting on my pillow and eating my hair when I had Covid ....

YesitsBess · 08/10/2022 21:28

Cats and wool is a real thing huh? I always just thought that was cartoons!

HeechulOppa · 08/10/2022 21:34

I really like your house op! I hope you feel better soon xx

MaffsMover · 08/10/2022 21:43

I hope you begin to feel a bit better soon. I’m so glad you’ve got good friends and neighbours. And cats.

Kenwouldmixitup · 08/10/2022 22:18

Here’s to a speedy recovery. Selfishly, so we can have more updates. This thread is taking on the genre of a Dickatsian claw hanger.

midlifecrash · 08/10/2022 23:30

Kevin is looking after you, he’s decided he’s your cat

Pixiedust1234 · 09/10/2022 00:46

I think i'm a cat. Your fire (and surround) looks amazing. Kevin really is your cat now, they only stay by you when you are ill if they are yours, especially if you are coughing and making the bed move.

Get well soon, and perry still looks beautiful 😍

sashh · 09/10/2022 03:46

Mine walks across my head when she is pissed off.

She sleeps on my bed, usually on me, but if I turn over in bed too much she walks across my head,

ANs=d yes you should write a book.
