Is my kitten too skinny?

Worried that kitten isnt eating enough but not sure if im worrying over nothing and maybe some cats dont eat as much as others?

Shes 5 months, has plenty of energy, lovely glossy coat, and has a microchip feeder so that she can graze without her brother stealing it, and she does graze but just tiny amounts.

Sometimes she eats her wet food, sometimes she just licks the gravy off. Has 50g dry food offered through the day which she normally finishes by the next morning jut sometimes leaves some.

Does she look too skinny? Ive attached a photo of her sleeping all stretched out.

Not sure if im just paranoid about her size because im comparing her to her brother who is a gannet and has grown into a bit of a monster...! So his massive size is making her normal size look too small?

Don't think you have anything to worry about, she looks a perfectly normal sized cat to me.

A lot of cats are fat. Yours isn't 👍

nocoolnamesleft · 29/08/2022 20:21

She is clearly starving. You need to hand feed her morsels of smoked salmon, succulent juicy prawns, poached chicken breast, and rare roast beef.

nocoolnamesleft · 29/08/2022 20:21

Oops, sorry, think my account was hacked by your cat.

Alfixnm · 29/08/2022 20:23

She looks good to me! When you feel her back - does her spine protrude? If so, then she is too skinny. But if not, she's likely fine.

Surtsey · 29/08/2022 20:24

😂

She's fine. Perfect, in fact.

For some cats, enough is as good as a feast, for others, they will eat until they are on the point of bursting, throw up and then eat some more. Or, in the case of one of my NotMyCats (long story), they will try and gouge their way through the kitchen door.

You could be describing my pair!

My boy is always starving - even straight after his meal. Would eat anything and everything offered and is huge (not fat, but a very big cat). His sister is really tiny, and I often watch her eat to make sure she's getting all she wants... she is, it's not him stealing her food.

Catch21 · 29/08/2022 20:29

I have a skinny cat too OP. She doesn't eat much but she seems perfectly healthy, and the vet says she's fine when she goes for her annual injections.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 29/08/2022 20:32

She's perfect

CornedBeef451 · 29/08/2022 20:40

She looks lovely!

I have one cat who isn't that into food and 3 gannets.

She's much longer and taller than the others but much slimmer. Vet thinks she's fine though.

LionessesRules · 29/08/2022 20:57

Well, we obviously need a comparative picture of her brother to see where the concern us coming from.

She looks in fabulous condition.

ChatterMonkey · 30/08/2022 17:52

Thank you for reassuring me!

She's the one that has figured out how to jump up onto the top of the doors so she definitely has plenty of energy...!

Her brother isnt even that fat, he is just way bigger than her, and there is a noticeable difference in weight when i pick them up, i think they are both just either extreme.

Need to remind myself that its impossible to ignore a hungry cat, and that she would let me know if she wants more haha

That's not underweight.
My mate has a cat who is almost spherical. She complains that other cats who we meet don't have enough bulk on them (!). I keep my mouth shut.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 30/08/2022 18:13

Some cats are naturally thin.

Your cat looks very soft. Very shiny fur. Very chilled. All signs of excellent health.

ChatterMonkey · 30/08/2022 18:35

Heres a photo of the two of them to show the size difference...!

I have a picture of my 2 kittens, about 4 months old, one of them looks at least 2x bigger than the other (!!). As adults they are pretty much same size, if anything, the tiny one is longer.

Ludo19 · 01/09/2022 15:57

OP remember males normally tend to be larger made than the females. Both your cats look in tip top condition and are very beautiful/handsome 🥰

iloveeverykindofcat · 01/09/2022 19:49

She looks perfect. Zara was very lanky and skinny until she was 2 but she always ate well and had good fur. Now she's 12 and has only a hint of a belly. Still very athletic!
