Cat behaving strangely

My cat is nearly 10 so not old-old but I think she is going a bit cuckoo. We went away for 10 days at the end of June and she was left home but fed every day by our friends and has a cat flap so could continue her normal routine. But since we got back she just hasn’t been herself.

She climbs up on the low roof several times a day, which she can’t get down from and meows at the upstairs window to be let in. She will go out there even if it’s raining or even spend all night up there and has taken to pooing up there too. The roof is covered in poo.

her eyes look different too, she sort of looks confused and rheumy, altho they aren’t milky she is also a bit unsteady on her feet.

I’ve wondered if she contracted FIV or if she is just going a bit barmy. She sleeps the whole day (if she isn’t on the roof) which isn’t unusual, and she doesn’t frolic anywhere near as much.

just wonder if anyone has any other ideas what could be up? Surely if she was stressed from us going away that would have settled by now 2 months later.

Please take her to a vet for a check up

mountainsunsets · 26/08/2022 08:16

I'm really sorry, but why the bloody hell have you not taken your cat to the vet in the last six weeks?

1wokeuplikethis · 26/08/2022 08:35

I’m obviously concerned hence asking on here so I’ve been waiting to see if she settles but it doesn’t look like she is.

what will the vet do? Blood tests maybe?

Your vet can do a whole lot more than a bunch of randomers on the Internet ever could!

But it's been six weeks! If she was going to settle, she'd have done so within a day or two at the most. Leaving her like this for over a month is wrong. She could be in pain or really unwell.

A vet can run blood tests, check her liver and kidney function, make sure she's not struggling with joint pain/arthritis, check her stool and urine for infection and prescribe and appropriate medication or advise on supplements.

She needs to see a vet ASAP.

Leafy3 · 26/08/2022 12:02

Agree with above, she's clearly unwell rather unsettled, please make an apt for her as soon as possible.

Beamur · 26/08/2022 12:05

That sounds very odd. Definitely time for a trip to the vet.

Vet apt booked for tomorrow. Thanks for everyone’s help, I had hoped she righted herself as she has always been a few sandwiches short ever since we rescued her as a kitten. Meanwhile husband cleaned up the roof and put some rubber cat repellers on the fence she uses to get onto the roof.

Dear OP, how is your cat and what was the diagnosis? Was it neurological? Hoping she is well. Kind thoughts.
