Cat won’t eat her food😞

i know cats do this. My cat goes through phases of loving her food then going on hunger strike.

she has has her meowing heads, applaws, lily’s kitchen, encore and now Sheba!

she will eat roast chicken, and weebox sticks so I know it’s not medical. Just turns her nose up at her actual food!

what next????? Any food recommendations. And can you starve cats into eating 😇

All cats do that. When mine is being awkward, I open a tin of tuna (spring water or oil, never brine) and he scoffs it down

Sally99 · 21/08/2022 20:17

My cats are the same. I just keep putting fresh usual food down and I'm afraid it's up to them whether they eat it. Cats are so manipulative!!

Stripedbag101 · 21/08/2022 20:21

i left her normal wet food down all day. Just gave in and gave her roast chicken - clean bowl!

Untamed? The tins are quite small (only tried the with jelly variety) and you can get a trial pack online. Found it very convenient and easy to recycle. I offer my kitty biscuits as well. A few days of just biscuits and there's more enthusiasm for the wet food!

Stripedbag101 · 21/08/2022 20:28

Thanks - I will try it!

Sometimes it doesn’t hurt to clean their palette with a bit of fresh roast chicken. She will probably go back to her regular food tomorrow. Both my cats do this.

mountainsunsets · 21/08/2022 22:59

I just keep giving them their food as normal. They won't starve!

Actually cats can and will refuse food up to the point of making themselves seriously unwell.

If your cat hasn't eaten for a few days, take it to the vet.

mountainsunsets · 22/08/2022 07:52

@unvillage well yes, obviously take it to the vet if it doesn't eat anything at all, but OP has said it's eating everything except it's wet food.

Chikapu · 22/08/2022 13:34

Try warming her food for ten seconds in the microwave, my lord and master will not eat anything that isn't warmed through first!

dementedpixie · 22/08/2022 13:39

Do they eat dry food?
Mine are fussy with wet but always eat their dry food

Oddly, that's what I do for my dog, who has the same habit of deciding that he no longer wants the stuff that he usually eats. Or a tin of kippers is also popular. TBH I think they do it deliberately to get the good fish!

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 22/08/2022 15:08

I add on a few of the felix sprinkles ( thinks that the right name ) that helps my old cat.

MidnightMeltdown · 22/08/2022 15:20

Felix as good as it looks in fish flavour.

I don't think it's the best cat food but it's the only thing mine will eat. The more expensive and nutritional the food, the less likely they are to eat it.

They have a high quality dry food though.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/08/2022 17:00

Cats do this, I just swap to a different brand and wait it out.

Nope - she went off dry food when she was a kitten and has refused every since

Oh she has eaten! Plenty of Roast chicken, webbox sticks and ham she stole off my plate!

she is just Turing her nose up at her normal wet cat food

Sounds painfully familiar!

Dcat is a fussy little shitbag and will meow like she has never been fed until we relent and change her food!

She is a rescue and came to us on Felix, she went off that in favour of Sheba before she went off that, we’ve tried lily’s kitchen, choice cuts and now we are on gourmet tins but only really the pate or melt in the middle ones🤷‍♀️ Very fussy!
