My flat smells of cat

Not cat pee… just more of a sweaty cat smell. How can I mask/get rid of it?

Open the windows as much as you can
Don't leave food down
Air-freshener if you think that's a better smell

Personally I think all granule type cat litter smells - not of cat pee per se - but certainly unpleasant. Try wood pellet litter, it has no smell at all.

Thank you - good suggestions! Not sure if we can get wood pellet litter here. I’ll investigate.

You're not in the UK?

Really don't think cats have a smell? Surely must be the litter. We also use wood pellet.

CraftyClara · 21/08/2022 07:11

No, not in U.K. Our summers are really hot which probably isn’t helping. The smell is as you come in the front door. The kitchen is opposite, so it may be the food. The litter is at the other end of the flat in the bathrooms (the flat is sort of split between living and sleeping areas with a long corridor in between). I agree that cats don’t smell usually. One smells of clean washing as she’ll sleep on the clean towels on top of the drier if I don’t put them away quickly enough.

Food and that artificial litter does smell in the summer. Catsan and similar brands absolutely reek to me 😳

We use natural corn based litter and never ever leave wet food out. They have set meal times for it and if they don't eat it, it's binned.

Windows open regularly, we vacuum daily (sometimes twice) and I use pet friendly wax melts too.

A hooded cat litter box may help with the cat smell
