Maggots in bin from leftover cat food!

Our cats are very fussy and keep changing their minds as to what they will eat, so we often get leftover cat food which I put into the food waste bin - and then get maggots in this hot weather! I've tried washing it down the sink and got a blocked sink. And apparently the same thing can happen if you chuck it down the loo. No dog. And I really don't want to tie it up in a plastic bag when I'm trying to not use plastic! Any suggestions? Thanks

Yes I freeze all meat for composting in this weather. Chicken carcasses etc. and put them outside first thing

We put the uneaten cat food out in the garden - the hedgehog & the blackbirds / magpies happily eat it all up

So I can use the brown caddy bin for the cat food. Leftover then. Do. Wrap up in loo roll or kitchen roll and then place it a plastic bag and then put it in the food bin? Or do I freeze it then put it in a food bin?????

This is an old thread @ThatNimbleRubyBalonz . It depends what your council accepts in the food waste bin. We line our indoor caddy with green biodegradable bags and food waste goes in there. Once thats full I double bag it and put it into the outdoor garden/food waste wheely bin. Cat food would be scraped into the indoor caddy along with other food scraps

If I freeze the leftover cat food, would that deter flies and maggots
