Missing cat 😕

Hi everyone; my 12 month old cat hasn’t been seen since yesterday afternoon. Really unlike him, though I had noticed he was staying out a bit later in the evenings this week but yesterday evening he didn’t come back like he usually would. He’s always in at night and will return like a shot if I shake the biscuit tin.

Ive checked our house / garden / sheds; asked the neighbours to check and have put together a flyer which I’ve printed off and I’m walking round houses in the area this evening. I’ve been calling him hourly today; feel so helpless and the kids are so upset too.

We are due to go on holiday next week and I just can’t think about it as I’m so worried about our cat 😕 I’ve had cats in the past and have never experienced this before.

I'm so sorry. Is there any news? Don't give up hope.

Beamur · 12/08/2022 22:27

Summer nights lure cats out. He's a young cat and has probably gone for a wander.
Try not to worry too much. Is he on a litter tray? If so, put it outside for the scent in case your boy has got a little disoriented.

Igmum · 12/08/2022 23:29

So sorry and hope he comes back soon. Summer nights definitely lure them out. Our girl cat (16 m) normally has a very narrow territory but went out Thursday night and didn't reappear until nearly midnight on Monday. She's never done this before and we were frantic. There's lots of good advice online on how to find cats, I found neighbours WhatsApp groups really helpful, calling her in the evenings (with Dreamies) and putting out an old hoover bag in the garden plus smelly clothes on the line. Hope your DCat comes back soon.

newbeliever · 13/08/2022 00:23

Still no sign of him. Spent the evening leafleting homes. We are not far from a school which has huge grounds and we’re wondering if he’s got disorientated in there, been chased, scared by fox/another cat. Trying to keep hopeful but it’s hard!

Don't give up hope, he's got to be somewhere.
As pps said have you tried putting the litter tray outside or the hoover contents? They can smell it really far away.

Is he chipped? Neutered?

newbeliever · 13/08/2022 00:28

Thank you @Beamur He does have a litter tray but doesn’t really use it now and I’d cleaned it out on Thursday so it’s clean. I have stuck his scratching post in the garden for scent.

We've had six cats vanished this week FB owners upset all in the vicinity of some hilly heathland. The little buggers have been turning up today. They've been having a rave in the hills I think enjoying the hunt. Our semi feral cat hunts all the year round so she's much more blasé, sleeping all day and hunting at night.

Try not to worry OP

newbeliever · 13/08/2022 06:37

Thabk you all for your kind words, it is helping to calm me a bit!

@Igmum that sounds so similar to us, lovely that you have her back. Frantic is a good word to describe how we feel! I haven’t heard about using a hoover bag, I’ll try doing that today.

@RichardOsmansXraySpecs he is chipped and neutered. I’m kicking myself for cleaning out his litter tray on Thursday!

@justasking111 Sioux a like the cats in your area have been having fun! Maybe it was the full moon this week which set them all off!

im trying very hard not to worry. My biggest concern is that if he’s not back before we go on holiday next week; we won’t be around to keep calling, looking for him. What if he returns whilst we are not here. We are away for 2 weeks and he was due to go to the cattery. It’s going to put a real dampner on the holiday if he’s not back.

HE’S BACK!!!! On my goodness, the relief! I went out in the garden first thing to hang up his blanket and pop out the hoover bag and he ran up to me from one of the bushes in the garden! Looks like he may have been locked in somewhere, got a general grubbiness look to him. He was starving, eaten two lots of food and charged into his litter box to use it. Currently got him locked in but he’s desperate to go back out. I think I’ll keep him in for the night after his dinner between now and our holiday. Feel like I can start looking forward to my holiday now!

So pleased he’s back! As a PP said, the very warm nights lure cats out and I also think there is a stubbornness where if they know you want them to come in they deliberately won’t!!!!

Robin233 · 13/08/2022 08:58

Great update xx

newbeliever · 13/08/2022 09:30

He probably knew he was due to go back to the vets for a check up yesterday! Lucky for him. I’ve been able to re-arrange for Monday 😀 I’ve just let him go back outside; he’s eaten the equivalent of two meals this morning, he was starving!

Excellent news! I've taken to bringing mine in just before it gets dark or else they won't come in.

justasking111 · 13/08/2022 11:04

Our bedroom is on the ground floor. The cat was hopping in and out all night in the first heatwave. Not this time I think our little creatures are suffering more the second time around. We've had tiny little mice lighting up our security light and they're sitting on the edge have a drink

Youngatheart00 · 13/08/2022 11:05

Ahhh love the picture. He certainly looks like a lovely cheeky boy!!

newbeliever · 13/08/2022 11:23

I think my strategy between now and holiday will be to keep him in after supper. I had been letting him go out but I’d noticed this week he was returning later and later. He’s hanging around the garden this morning, popping back every 30mins or do to say hello and try and to try and get another treat out of me. He’s got us wrapped around his paws!! 😂

Little sod!!! Ha ha glad he’s back.

Youngatheart00 · 13/08/2022 11:54

My cat is also roaming more (and killing more 😱) so am also having to keep her in during heatwaves!!!

newbeliever · 13/08/2022 12:18

He’s been catching/killing more too; this last week we had a poor toad he was terrorising which I made my dh catch and relocate to the pond at the end of the road. A tiny bird which I spotted him catch, managed to get him to drop it out of his mouth and the bird recovered and flew off and a couple of mice who weren’t quite so lucky which he had left on the lawn. Thankfully he’s not attempted to bring anything inside the house yet 😬 I wouldn’t change him though, such a part of the family and he’s a great little character! 😃

So pleased your boy is back home.

Igmum · 13/08/2022 20:20

So so pleased he's back - and looking really well too - yes, definitely tell him he's grounded Grin

Blowyourowntrumpet · 14/08/2022 10:51

That's brilliant. I'm so glad he's back home

isitaline97 · 14/08/2022 10:54

So glad he's home! What a beautiful boy ❤️
