Can cats have piriton?

Odd question, but when my puppy had an allergic reaction the vet suggested piriton tablets. So I'm guessing it's similar?

My cat has constantly got a snotty nose and scratchy throat over the summer. Last year the vet suggested FHV and says he will have flare ups, but we got through winter fine and it's only since spring/summer started. He's really feeling sorry for himself and can't even meow. So I'm thinking of trialling him with some piriton in case it could be hay fever? He is shedding lots too.

Yes that's the plan but with it being Sunday and him being so under the weather I was just trying to see if anyone had any experience so I can help him.

I wouldn’t without the vet specifically saying it’s ok.

I gave mine cetirizine earlier this year when she had a skin problem.

And the vet okayed that.

I'm pretty sure my ex-cat used to have piriton from the vet for flea allergy, god love her.

I was told to give mine 1/4 of a human tablet of piriton.

I gave my cat (human) antihistamines ones but the dose is going to depend on the a animals weight so while the answer is yes, you’d be well advised to wait until you have spoken to your vet.

Yes, it can work, HOWEVER, one thing that your vet doesn't tell you is that it's not licenced for use in animals if you buy it from a chemist! We CAN'T legally and ethically sell you it if we know that it's not for human consumption, and vets always neglect to tell you that one important fact!

@skippycat1280 when I buy chloramphenicol for my cat. It's actually for my non existent husband/ child!
