Anyone else’s cat not purr?

Just that really.

I have a small female calico semi long haired cat (3.5kg, should have been bigger from parents but has a leaky heart valve which possibly affected growth). She is reasonably affectionate, but she never purrs. Never has. She is quite vocal with her meows, and very good at getting her point across.

Anyone else with a happy cat that doesn’t purr?

Yeah our boy Trevor doesn't purr. He is affectionate and very vocal but doesn't purr! Bread wise he is all black, moggy!

A very happy tabby and white never has purred, don’t think she can.

One of mine doesn’t purr often and when she does, she can’t do it very well - sounds more like a pig snorting! She also has some other weird things like not being able to retract her claws so she sounds like she’s tap dancing when she walks, and thinking that wagging her tail is a good thing. Maybe she’s actually a dog?!

I have one cat who doesn't and the other which sounds like a motorbike.

Yes, small black girl cat doesn't purr too. If you place your finger on her neck you can feel it vibrating but she doesn't purr loudly. She does have a deep and impressive growl that she uses to good effect on our boy cats.

We do have a ginger boy whose purr could fill the Albert Hall.

Yes one of mine doesn't purr or meow very often, he does do some odd talking thing where it sounds like he's shouting hello though

We hand reared him from 10 days old and I've always wondered if that might be something to do with it

Mine either meows or chirps. He's almost a teenager in human years but I've never heard him purr.

Mine do all purr but Basil's is VERY quiet. You often need to rest your ear on his side to check if it's turned on or not.

My dear boy doesn’t purr. I wish he would. I got him from the Shelter, and I have wondered if maybe his mum never taught him how? (Ie he was taken from her too early?)

I know he is happy - when he stretches out in front of the fire, with his eyes half closed and warm as toast he looks overjoyed……but no accompanying purr.

He’s about 18 months old, so I am hoping he might discover how to do it randomly one day?!? But I think that’s a false hope.

One of my three (the calico as it happens) stopped purring out of kitten hood. She's very affectionate and clearly happy though. The other two are like mini generators, one you only need to approach with a hand and she purrs in readiness of being stroked!

My orientals purr as soon as they see you. They are very purry cats.

We have a beautiful tabby rescue aged about 9 who we got from the RSPCA at 5 months who never ever purrs.

She is a nervy little thing but when we are not watching likes to stalk us in the garden and in the night curls up on my pillow and nibbles my hair.

I think she was never properly socialised because she was a feral kitten who was on her own from about 6 weeks until we got her. She is basically content though I think. (She likes kisses on her head).
