Having my cat PTS this afternoon

and I'm devastated. He was diagnosed with Stage 3 kidney disease in April, but it's progressed pretty quickly. He's lost 2 kilo in that time, and has now developed ulcers in his mouth where the kidney function has all but stopped. He's only 8yo. I'm just gutted 😓.

Thank you 💓 It is definitely the right thing to do - I've always said 'better a week too early than a day too late', but I just wasn't prepared for him to go down hill so quickly - the daily meds he was on worked really well for the first month or so. I knew we'd never have the suggested 18mo-5 years that's estimated at stage 3, but truly thought it would be longer than 3 months.

I'm so sorry. I get how you feel. I had my best boy put to sleep this morning. I took him because he had bad breath and was dribbling and off his food. He was not to be messed with, so they sedated him to look in his mouth and found a tumour on the back of his tongue. So even though o didn't want to I agreed for the vet to euthanise him whilst he was sedated. It's horrible. I'm so upset. Xxx

It's done. It was peaceful. I held him all the while, and they booked a double appointment for me so I could spend some time alone with him after. Props to my vets, I don't know how they do this and hold it all together. They were so considerate and gentle with me and my boy - told me just to leave when I wanted and call in when I'm feeling ready to sort things out.

Oh bless your heart OP. It's so so hard.

Take comfort that you showed him all the love in the world and did the right thing for him

I'm sorry for the loss of your cats @MyboyTwister and @peterpiperpickedapiece and all the others here who have lost their little friends. I have just lost my boy far too young and I am in bits.

Huge hugs to you. I'm still not sure how to deal with it. I have other cats, and his 'bestie' was sat where they both sunbathed together, looking lost. My heart broke a little bit more. I've not moved his blanket from his latest favourite sleeping place, and I can't bring myself to dispose of his unused medication yet. And my ds absentmindedly called him when he was calling the other cats to come in last night 😓. Looking at pictures of him kills me, but I need to keep looking at them, I miss him so much. Still can't believe it's happened.
