Kitten urinating on cot bed

We have a male kitten who is 17 weeks old. He's eating and drinking well, is a happy, confident little boy and he uses the litter tray without any issue, we have 1 downstairs.

He was neutered last Saturday and seemed to recover well, back to his normal self by that same afternoon.

This week he's gone into my little girls room and wee'd on her bed on 2 separate occasions. After the first time I stripped the bed, washed all the linen and used a spare set of bedding for a couple of days. I then put the original bedding back on and by that night he did it again.

I use a waterproof sheet on the bed so I don't think he's picking up on the scent, but it seems odd he's done it on the same set of bedding? Although I suppose it could be coincidence.

In an attempt to prevent reoccurrence I've put a second litter tray on the landing. My older DS shares a room with his sister and is in and out the room so keeping the door shut isn't guaranteed. I'm open to any other suggestions to stop it becoming a habit. Do you think it might be worth getting a new bed set?

Can you keep the cat downstairs?

LucieLemon · 25/07/2022 00:38

Unfortunately not, we have an open plan hallway no way of shutting off the upstairs.

Did you wash everything with biological washing detergent?

Get some wee away spray to neutralise any lingering odour on the mattress.

Try bicarb on the mattress protector and any other linens to remove scents. Sprinkle it on the mattress too and hoover it up an hour or so later. Seemed to help when our cat did the same.

I'm using regular non bio I think, I'll pick up a box of biological powder.

Thanks, I'll give these a try and see how we get on. Hopefully stop it before it becomes a habit.
