Outdoor litter tray

Hello 🙂 I have three cats who are mostly indoor but have access to the garden during the day (with protective fencing) but they won’t go to the toilet outside, instead saving it up and destroying the litter trays when they come indoors (they won’t use the cat flap, all three are quite stupid precious!), not sure if it’s because the garden is paved rather than grass. They also won’t use a lidded outdoor tray for the same reason, as they don’t like the flap!

Would a normal tray filled with fine gravel work as an outdoor tray, and I could just scoop poo/drain wee/jetwash the pebbles to clean it? They must be busting when they come in!

I'm in the same situation with paved yard. My cats have a lidded outdoor tray with no flap and they love it. Started indoors getting them used to just the tray with no lid for a few weeks, then put the lid on for a few weeks, then moved it outside. I will try to find the one I have online, it's a cleaner design with an overhang to protect the entrance from rain and it's totally waterproof

Clever design, not cleaner

It's this one

You can fancy litter trays where the stuff drains through and you change a drawer underneath.

That design looks really good. I tried this once with a standard lidded tray but, if I didn't clean it out before it rained, it just got water logged and vile!

You can just remove the flaps from lidded trays!

We used the one like @floppybit posted, brilliant and water proof. Pretty cheap from Zooplus.

Standard lidded trays also have slots in the top for filters
